I will give my life for you, my princess". I yell bravely. I look behind me at the small girl cowering in fear. Her ice blue eyes are wide with terror. Her skin is even more pale than usual. And the sun is hitting the top of her head so you can see the slight red tint to her brunette hair.
There is no need to fear, my princess. I will save you from the beast, I think to myself. I will be her savior, her knight in shining armor.
As I slowly walk near the beast, I start to feel scared myself. But I know that I must slay this horrible creature for her.
I take off in a sprint and hit it right in the head with my sword.
"Ow," cried Cronus. "I hate being the monster. I want to be the knight next". He is such a stupid boy. He should be grateful we even let him play the beast.
"No. I'm the knight who gets to save the princess," I say with my head held high, to show my confidence.
"That's not fair! And besides you can't be a knight, you're just a girl", called Cronus. He grabs the stick that I was using as a sword and starts to swing it around, quite unskillfully. "I am the one who is of Noble blood, and one day I will be a real knight."
"You're nothing but a weakling," I tell him and I stick out my tongue at him for added measure. It was immature, but I am only ten, after all, we all are Clara, Cronus, and I.
I walk back over to Clara and see her looking at a butterfly that landed on a red rose next to her. She stares at its orange wings in awe and holds out her hand. The butterfly at once crawled onto her hand and then it flew away. She watches it with eager eyes as it flies out of sight.
I sit beside her and look around at the beautiful garden around me. There is every kind of flower in every type of color. This garden makes the whole kingdom smell sweet and alive.
"Cronus," I hear a gentle voice say. I look over and see the Queen Alania standing next to the Noble Man Uther, the father of Cronus and a skillful knight. But he is a cruel man, and the sight of him makes me want to cower in fear. But I will not do such a foolish and cowardly thing. I must stay strong and look brave for Princess Clara. But Cronus, on the other hand, tries to hide and not be seen by his cruel father.
"Cronus get over here at once," his father growled, and Cronus with his head down in shame makes his way over to his father. Uther takes him by the arm and yanks him out of the garden.
"Clara, Myra. Supper is ready," The queen says. "Please come join us in the dining hall."
Clara and I take off running because after a long day of playing we are famished.
I follow the Queen and Clara to the dining hall.
I look at how in sync Clara and her mother are. The walk the same, talk the same, and they look the same. They both have the long straight brown hair and icy blue eyes. Clara got all her looks from her mother, and it seems like she got nothing from her father.
It makes me wonder if I resemble my mother at all. If there was once someone with my blonde hair and green eyes, or if I got those things from my father. I will never know. They abandoned me when I was born.
We finally made our way to the hall, and they gave us plenty of food to eat. I walked into the kitchen and sat down in my usual corner while Clara and her mother went to the grand dining hall so they could dine with the king.
I was only a peasant, and they were royalty. I was not allowed to eat with them. But the Queen was nice enough to take me in and help care for me. I even have a small room for myself and for that I am grateful.
I finished my food rather quickly and made my way to my room. It was getting rather late, and I decided to get to bed as soon as possible.
I quickly get ready and lay on the bed. Soon enough I fall asleep. Only to be awoken shortly after by a knocking sound at my door. I opened the heavy door to see Clara crying.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
" I had a nightmare," She sniffles "Can I sleep with you?" I open my door wider and gesture her in. She crawls into my bed, and I follow her. She comes up right next to me and lies her head on my chest. I held her tight next to me hoping that somehow I could protect her from her nightmares.
