We're all addicted to something that takes the pain away; mine just happened to be cigarettes. No matter how many people would tell me that the substances in them can cause cancer or shorten my life span, I didn't listen. Maybe I didn't want to listen, because I was afraid and at the same time I didn't care. I've always wondered as to how something so bad would feel so good?

I was lying on my bed, tired as hell. When my phone rung, interrupting my music. I groaned hoping whoever was calling would hang up at the third ring. When that didn't happen, I turned my phone checking the caller ID. I wasn't surprised to see who it was, and picked up.

"Hey Evan," he said in a small, but tremulous voice. He was always like that, always happy.

Ethan was probably the only person in the world that I didn't hate, or didn't hate me.

"Hi," I replied lazily.

"How are you doing?" He asks in a sincere voice, except that was a question he knew the answer to.

"Like usual," I simply respond in a low voice.

"Listen, there's a party at Parker's tonight, everyone is invited. You should come." I shrug, I hated going to parties where everyone in that shit hole they call school will be there.

"You know I hate high school parties," I told him.

"Evan, you didn't come to school in a week now. Try a change of scenery for once," he attempted to convince me.

I wasn't exactly what you would call a good friend, Ethan was always there for me, all I had to do was go a to stupid party. It can't be that bad. "I don't have anything better to do anyways." I finally give in.

"Great, see ya at 7!" He replies before hanging up.

At that time, I really thought nothing would go wrong, I didn't realize that by going to that stupid party a drastic measure would be taking place.
