<It’s the first day of winter break, why won’t you let me sleep?!> I asked groggily to myself hearing my phone ring for the 5th time in a row.

“Hello?” I asked answering my phone not worrying about looking at the caller id.

“Finally you answer! Get up I’ll be at your house in a half an hour to get you!” and with that Lacey hung up the phone.

Leave it up to her to get me up at 6 on the first day of winter break. She’s my best friend and all but sometimes I wondered why I talked to her. I jumped out of bed heading for my closest to change since I took a shower the night before. I opted for a pair of dark wash jeggings, an old volleyball t-shirt and my favorite pair of booties from target. While getting ready for the day, I blasted Forget Me in Vegas’ song “Destined To Fall” through my iHome.

“I've been running with my back up against the wall!..”

I walked out of my closest seeing my twin brother, Nathan, standing in the doorway of my room singing along. If you didn’t know we were twins wouldn’t have been able to tell. He has straight blonde hair, and I have curly brown hair. While we don’t look alike, we do have many common interests one being our love for music.

“What do you want?” I asked him as he stood there after 2 more songs played.

“I was wondering if you wanted to go play volleyball at the Y with the guys and I?”

“No, Lacey is coming and getting me in a bit.” If I knew lacey wouldn’t have been coming I would have already been in the car ready to go, I never pass up a game of volleyball!

“She can come too if she wants? We need another player to go so we will have 6 people on a team since Ross is out of town.” Nathan responded back, trying to persuade me even more.

“Fine! Let me call Lacey and ask her if it’s ok. But first get out of here!” I yelled at him throwing the t-shirt I wore to bed the night before at him.

“Will the cute one be there?” Lacey asked as we drove towards the YMCA following Nathan. Leave it up to Lacey to worry about guys and not the actual game.

“Well in my opinion, none of them are h-“ I tried to respond back before being hit it the arm. “What was that for?!”

“You can’t lie to me and say none of Nathan’s friends are hot!” Lacey answered back trying not to smile about hitting my arm a few seconds before.

'“I'm not lying none of them are! If you’ve seen them do some of the things I have you wouldn’t think they’re hot either.” I mean I've seen most of them pick their noses! Sixteen and seventeen year olds acting like three year olds!

“Caleb” I said as the tall brunette walked towards me.

Nathan and I were choosing our teams so far I had Lacey, Clayton, Tyler, and now Caleb. Nathan had Connor, Thomas, Chris, Nick and Sam.

“Ok, Spence rock, paper, scissors to see who serves first.” Nathan spoke up as his team walked to the other side of the net getting into position.

“Wait! I only have 5 people on my team including me! You have 6 what happened to having even teams?” I asked recounting each side of the net to make sure I had the math right.

“Are you sure, we should’ve had enough with Lacey since Cameron said he couldn’t come after all…” Nathan drifted off.

“Recount if you wan-“ I was cut off by a familiar voice.

“Sorry I'm late I had to help my mom with something!” Someone called running towards us.

“Kyle! That’s who we were missing!” Nathan said to me as he turned around to greet the guy who was now standing across from me.

<Why him?!> I thought to myself, the most popular guy on campus of course had to see me looking like a mess.

“Huh?” Kyle asked staring at me.

“I didn’t say anything…?” I responded confused.

“Yes you did Spence, you said why him.” Nathan responded looking at me with even more confusion then I had a few seconds ago. I could have hit myself square in the forehead so I did, mentally anyways.

“Oh, sorry” I said looking between Nathan and Riley.

“Whatever Spence! Kyle you’re on her team. Sorry but you came late so you had to be put on the team that will lose!” Nathan said making me want to hit him not because he put Kyle on my team, but because of his commenting about us loosing.

“You’re going to go down Blondie” Kyle spoke up staring Nathan down.

“And that’s game, so much for my team losing Nathan!”  I said walking up to then net.

“Yeah whatever…” Nathan scoffed walking over to the bench taking a drink of his water.

I walked over towards Lacey and our bags in need of a drink of water myself. Lacey looked like a mess with sweat dripping down her face and her dirty blonde hair pulled into a messy bun with a few stands laying around face were they had escaped during our game.

“You look like a complete mess!” I said as I sat down next to her.

“You probably look worse!” she responded back laughing a little.

I pulled out my white iPhone putting turning on the front facing camera to look at myself. Wow she was right! My hair was pulled into a high ponytail but most of the back layer had fallen out and my bangs were sticking to my forehead due to sweating. I let out a small giggling after locking my phone and placing it back in the gym back I brought with me.

“Hey the guys are coming over to swim after they all go get shorts. Lacey can stay too if she wants” Nathan said smiling at Lacey, he might not want to admit it but I'm pretty sure he has a crush on her. I don’t really know how she feels about him though.

“You want to Lace?” I asked looking at my friend who was busy texting, typical.

“Yeah that sounds fun! But we have to stop at my house to get so I can get a swimming suit.” She responded back without taking her eyes off her phone.

“You can borrow one of mine if ya want?” I responded, no point in wasting a trip when we’re the same size.

“Look down” lacey said, finally looking up from her phone.

“Huh, why?”  I asked confused at what I was supposed to look at.

“I don’t have your size boobs!” She responded.

“I’ll meet you guys back to at the house…” Nathan said. I forgot he was standing there; obviously Lacey did too as redness rose to her cheeks.

“Oops!” Lacey said laughing a little as we both got up and started walking towards the doors to leave.
