25th December

Neither Cas nor Dean stirred until gone 10:00am.

Dean was the first to groggily enter consciousness and he was greeted to the feeling of a fast asleep Castiel snuggling into his chest. There was no way he could move without waking Cas, which means no coffee before human interaction. Crap.

Slowly, slowly Dean woke up Cas, praying the entire time that the thought of Christmas would out weigh the whole just woke up feeling.

Castiel opened his eyes with a glare directed at Dean. Crap. However God must've been looking down on him as with the next few blinks Cas seemed to grip reality and realise it was Christmas. By his fifth tired blink Cas was almost smiling. Phew.

They got up and showed before Dean went downstairs and made toast in the shape of Christmas trees. Cas sliced their coffee with gingerbread and they opened the presents they had bought for each other.

Dean had gotten Cas chocolate, CDs, socks and a new camera. He opened the camera last and a grin completely took over his face. He turned it on and took a photo of Dean. The result was a picture of a tired looking Dean in a Christmas jumper holding a mug of coffee smiling happily at the look on the photographers face.

Cas had gotten Dean chocolate, a couple of new flannel shirts and tickets to an AC/DC concert. Dean looked at Cas after opening the tickets with complete awe. These things were like gold dust. When Dean asked how Cas just shrugged, "Sold my soul." That was the only explanation he would give.

At dinner time they headed up to Bobby and Ellen's. For a long, long time the brothers had been making their way up to their second parents house for Christmas dinner.

As the family grew the tradition remained and Ellen began to demand that it was mandatory. So around the table would sit Ellen and Bobby, Sam and Sarah with Mary, kevin (a friend of Sam's that had been taken under the families wing when he went through a hard time) Dean and Cas, Jo and charlie (who had become like a second daughter to Ellen and Bobby) and Gabriel, Cas's brother who had managed to get himself an invite one year and then didn't stop coming.

It was hectic as hell but being able to sit at that table as a family made it worth it. They were all each other had and as much as they were all against touchy feely emotions crap, spending time together on Christmas was valued by them all.

After they had ate and cleaned up they all sit with their drinks and opened gifts. It was mostly chocolate and socks with the occasional book thrown in but they were thought out gifts and that's what counted.

They spent the day talking about the past and bringing up embarrassing photos and memories until their sides ached.

They talked about how Sam thought he was batman and jumped off a roof and then broke his hand. They talked about how Bobby once got arrested for breaking into a library and once he got out, did it again. The story of Dean on his first airplane was, as always, brought up and how Kevin can't catch a ball go save his life. And, as they annually do, they questioned why Gabriel was still showing up to these meals.

They laughed at each other until their sides were aching and it was dark outside. In the late evening, one by one they left the house. They all left thanking Bobby who was grumbling about the mess and Ellen who was telling them that they should ring her when they got home safe becausenitbwas icy out.

Once they got home Dean called Ellen who thanked him and Cas made hot chocolate. They both slipped into their p.js and cuddled on the sofa watching the specials on tv and eating chocolate. "After the new year we'll send off that form and get the balls rolling babe," Dean muttered into Cas's hair. His response came in a squeeze on his hand.

As they went up to bed that night Dean saw snow falling as he closed the blinds. "Perfect" he thought.

He settled down next to Cas and they fell into place with each other before drifting off to sleep.
