Book 1: Hikaru

The Start of it All

Water....Earth....Fire....Air....

I was told stories of the old days, a time of peace.

When the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads.

But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

Only the Avatar could master of all four elements,

Only he could stop the ruthless Fire Benders

But when the world needed him most, he vanished.

A hundred years have passed and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the war.

After the Fire Nation completely wiped out the Air Nomads, in fear of the next Avatar,

Many people believe that the cycle of Avatars had been broken, including me.

But even without the Avatar someone has to make a stand.........

"Breathe in, and calm yourself Hikaru," I thought as I meditated at the center of a ring of candles, "Keep yourself balanced, think of the four elements.....Air...Water...Earth...Fi,"

"Hikaru!" shouted Shyu, a priest of the Fire Nation, who's been letting me hide here for awhile.

"­­Shyu, I'd appreciate it if you would knock or give some kind of warning before you come in like that," I said still a little shaken from his shout.

"I'm sorry Hikaru, but it's urgent," apologized Shyu, "The Avatar Chambers reacted to what might be the Avatar's Return."

"Is this some kind of joke?" I asked kind of annoyed, "You and I both know, that the Avatar's long gone."

"Hikaru...I thought you of all people would want the Avatar to return," said Shyu, "He can help your people too."

"Do you truly believe that?" I asked, "If the Avatar cared about my people, he would've helped."

"Hikaru, I know it's been hard for you. Right from the beginning, you've had to struggle," said Shyu, "But we need you to find the Avatar and keep him safe....If you won't do it for me, do it for your people, Serene."

I sighed then stood, "Fine, as long as he promises to help my people, I'll help him."

"Thank you, Serene," smiled Shyu.

"Mind you I said I'll help him, not babysit him," I said, "There's only one person I swore to protect, and it wasn't the Avatar."

"Be careful Serene," said Shyu as I gathered my supplies.

"My name's Hikaru!," I snapped, "Serene died in the fire that killed my parents."

I tied my hair back in a black cloth as I opened the attic window. As my ocean blue eyes viewed the ocean, the light shined on my blue robes and black gloves, with black tights and blue shoes.

"Time to find the Avatar," I said as I leaped from the window as began to bend the water allowing me to ski across, "For my people."
