Day one of being here went pretty well. I had acquainted myself with a lot of people, and so far they were cooI. Everyone and everything was copasetic; I just might like this school. I laid across my bed, eyes deep in the Mercy Hall student handbook. If I was going to remain here, I was going to have to follow the rules. If I didn't, I'd be shipped right back to London to live with people I hated. That was the last thing I needed to happen. The rules of Mercy Hall were pretty simple to follow, but the consequences were ridiculous!

"These bloody consequences are stupid!" I thought aloud.

"You're still reading that stupid ass handbook?" Ambrose said.

"Yeah." I replied. and looked up from my book. Ambrose was still unpacking her bags and getting settled. She was crouching down on the floor and putting her endless amount of shoes at the bottom of the closet. "Can you believe section six? About student relationships and interactions?"

"AJ, I didn't even read the table of contents," Ambrose rolled her eyes. She placed her last pairs of Jordans and creepers in the closet before standing up tall. "I don't follow rules in my own house, let alone will I follow some dumb rule book. I threw that damn thing out."

I chuckled and shook my head. "Well, if you won't read it, then I'll read the rules out to you,"

"Whatever. My ears are open."

"Rule number six, section six," I began. "Heterosexual and homosexual relationships are allowed. However, engaging in lewd, sexual acts on the premises are prohibited. Anyone who disobeys this rule will be sentenced to one to two months of cafeteria duty or detention."

Ambrose kissed her teeth, knitting her eyebrows in disbelief. "What the hell? Are they serious?"

"Now you see what I'm talking about!" I said. "I bet no one even cares about this rule. I bet people still have sex."

"I know for sure that I don't give a shit about that rule. I'll fuck whoever I want, whenever I want." Ambrose replied as she zipped up her empty suitcase. She began to work on her fifth and final suitcase, which was filled with more clothing. She kissed her teeth in exhaustion. I guess she hadn't realized how much stuff she had brought.

"Same here." I looked back at the handbook. "Rule number seven, section six; small pranks are allowed. Disgusting, harmful pranks are prohibited. Consequences include suspension, community service, detention, or—in serious cases—expulsion. Are you kidding me?"

Ambrose huffed and walked over to my bed. She snatched the handbook out of my hand and threw it out of the window. "Stop reacting to it. Fuck those rules."

I sighed. "You're right." I got off of my bed and went to my suitcase. I pulled out an assemblage of posters that I had brought from back home. With the posters in my hand, I stood on the bed. "So, do you like it here so far?"

"It's a'aight," she shrugged. "It could be better, but it's decent. The people here are cool."

I nodded my head in agreement. "What about Jacob?"

"What about him?"

"Don't play stupid," I smirked. "It's obvious you're attracted to him."

She kissed her teeth, placing the remainder of her shirts in the drawer. "I just met the dude some hours ago. It ain't no attraction." She was so in denial. There was no way that she wasn't attracted to Jacob in some way. If I was, then she had to be.
