One of the Guys

Prologue

Six year old Sophia laughed as seven year old Gabe chased her around the yard. "You'll never catch me!" She teased.

Gabe huffed and sprinted to catch up. He tackled Sophie to the ground. She frowned and fought back. Giggling, she tickled his stomach. He laughed and tickled her back. "Sophie and Gabriel will you quit it and come and eat lunch!" Gabe's mom, Beth, called.

"Don't call me that!" Gabe whined as Sophie punched him lightly in the stomach and pranced off to the house.

"Hi, Mommy," Sophie said, planting a kiss on her cheek.

"Hey, Sophie. You having fun?" Samara, Sophia's mom, asked. Sophie smiled and nodded.

Gabe sat down at the table and Sophie joined him. Beth set down two plates that each had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Gabe finished his sandwich fast and Sophie only ate half. "I'm done." Sophie announced and ran downstairs, Gabe sprinted behind her.

"GO! GO! GO!" Sophie's dad, Steve, yelled at the tv. He and Gabe's father, Brady, cheered as the Green Bay Packers scored a touchdown.

"Hi, Daddy," Sophia said and hugged his legs.

"Hi, Sophia. Can you and Gabe go play? We're watching the game." Steve said.

Sophie frowned and nodded and walked to the play area. "It's boring down here," Gabe complained. "Can't we go outside?"

"Sure," Sophie mumbled and ran outside. They played tag and played on the swing set. Sophie laughed as she jumped in the mini toy Jeep. "Race ya!" She said and tore down the driveway with Gabe on her heels.

One year later

"Sophia! It's moving day! Gather up the rest of your stuff!" Samara yelled.

"I don't wanna move!" Sophie yelled and buried herself in the sleeping bag.

"Sophia. C'mon don't you want to say good bye to Gabe, Nathan, Collin, Aaron, and Cody?" Steve asked and grabbed Sophia by the feet and hung her upside down.

"Daddy! Let me down!" Sophie screamed.

"Only if you promise to get up." Steve said.

"Fine," Sophia mumbled as he put her down. Sophie got out of the sleeping bag and threw it at her dad so he could roll it up. Sophie quickly put on a shirt and shorts and ran a brush through her blonde hair. She ran outside and knocked on her next door neigbor's door. A grin spread across Sophia's face as Nathan opened the door. "Bye, Nathan." Sophia said.

Eight year old Nathan smiled. "Bye, Shorty. I'm glad the only girl is finally leavin'." He teased. Sophia frowned and punched his arm and waved.

Sophia waked up to the small stone house and rang the door bell. Aaron answered the door and smiled. "Hey Cody! Sofie's here." Aaron is two years older than Sophie and Sophie is the same age as Cody. Aaron would tease them about liking each other. Cody is sensitive, so when he showed up at the door he gave Sophia a hug and said goodbye. Sophie waved good bye to Aaron and went across the street to Collin's house.

He was outside riding on his scooter. Sophie approached him and said her goodbyes to him and his two year old sister. Sophia walked up Gabe's driveway. He was driving the little toy yellow jeep. He looked up and saw Sophie. A sad expression crossed his face as he got out of the Jeep. Sophia jumped on his back and gave him a mini hug. She messed up his hair and jumped down. "See ya later, Sophie." He said and smiled. Sophia grinned, waved, and ran down the driveway. Gabe looked after her sadly, hoping he would see her again.
