                                                    Veneers

Oh, the truth that we dream to dream

And the lovely lullaby lies that we tell the desperate And the lopsided smiles we display on plastic faces

Are all but veneers

The truth is there

Lingering in thin air

In front of our eyes

Appearing into the night

Where we run into our rooms and plop onto our beds, think Happy thoughts

And into our blankets we dream reality

And awaken to another dream

Another lie

Another obsessive wish

We see horrid things

Then deny and dream them again

Only to awaken from reality to reassure ourselves it was “but a nightmare”

It’s the sickness that we spread

The embroidery in our soul

The garbage we stuff in all the empty holes

An intoxicating drug we’re addicted to without even knowing it

It’s the lullaby lies we live on.
