It was the end of the day and I was heading to the hospital with Autumn.
And even as persistent as she had been, I hadn't told Tara anything about Erin and I. It happened after freshman year to a little bit before junior year. It was a flawed relationship that was secretive and... well, it was actually pretty good. But people drift apart and that's that.
[End of freshman year]
"Hey, hey fish." A tall, intimidating senior named Erin Jenkins that I sat next to in one of my classes walked up behind me and tapped my shoulder. I knew it was her because I could see her shoes, brown men's boots with a tan lace, and because of that intoxicating accent. I really didn't want to get beat up my second to last day of freshman year, I was doing so well! What had I done to get her angry, maybe, uhm, spill my drink? Laugh too hard? I don't think we had exchanged any words except maybe a "hi" on the first day of school. Oh gosh, what do I say?
And it's not just that she was a senior, but she was also SO freaking gorgeous. Erin had the kind of face that requires little to no makeup, and her eyes were the almost exact same as mine. Her hair was ear length and a dark raven black, like the rebel queen of some badass country, and her style was the exact same. But uh... I swear I don't stalk her...
"Oy, are you awake in there? HM?" She snapped her fingers while still behind me.
I looked to the ground, staring at her shoes through my legs. "Y-yes. I-I am so sorry if I did anything to you I a-am v-very clumsysometimesalotofmyfriendssay." I rushed the end of my sentence so she couldn't hear my stupid voice stutter. Stupid, stupid.
"So... anyways, I'm going to ask you a question, and I'll be deeply gutted if you say no." Erin pushed herself closer to me, which was hard with my massive backpack, and her arms crept around my shoulders and she laced her fingers right over my collarbones, since she was so much taller then me.
"A-alright." She could probably feel my heart pounding at the speed of light and me starting to hyperventilate.
"I've got mates that say you and I would look good together... and I believe 'em." She leaned in even more, so much that I could feel her breath on my ear. "So, I have a proposition for ya."
"Yeah?" I started to lose any sense of up, down, left, or right. The floor was the place where the lights hang from, right?
"So one date, with me. My friends will be at a table watching us, the creeps, so stop quivering and put paid to your worries. I got ya, love. Plus, I need $100."
Ah, so that's what I was, a bet. Makes sense, a senior dating a freshman? Not even remotely likely.
I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't have time to prevent Erin from flipping me around to face her, end-of-a-romantic-dance style. I was falling to the floor and she was the only thing holding me up.
"Oy, don't scarper when I do this." Then she kissed me.
"NURSE, NURSE, I NEED A NURSE." Autumn yelled as soon as we walked inside the automatic doors.
A man rushed up to us with blue scrubs on and a clipboard in his hands. "Hi, I'm Nurse Liu. How can I help you?"
"Our friend, Christina Leigh, is in here. We need to see her." Autumn was freaking but I was zoned out. British named Erin? Sure.
I felt and hand pull me along. It was Autumn's, and the nurse was leading us to Christina's room.
I leaned over to Autumn and whispered, "Hey, what are we even going to say to her?"
