"So how was your weekend?" Tara asked me as we got into my bice green Volvo and headed to school.

It was the question I had dreaded ever since I left that damned place Saturday. All of Sunday after church I had thought about my answer. Maybe I could say, "Oh, nothing, haha." But that would be too much of a lie and Tara would ask for specifics.

Or maybe I could actually tell the truth, huh? That'd be so hard though. "Oh yeah, I was just hanging out with my ex-kinda-girlfriend/ex-best-friend-now-just-friend and we were remembering the first time we made out and she almost kissed me but I can't so I rejected her." Based on that, I crossed that off the list all together.

Maybe I could say---

"Gosh, Olive!" Tara shouted, snapping me out of one of my self-induced trancesShe

"Huh?" I said, still pretty damn out of it.

"How. Was. Your. Weekend?" She said again, this time enunciating every word with the most extreme slowness.

"Oh, it was good. Uh, I went on a walk Saturday, and church as usual Sunday. Why, what about you?" I was rushing my words so I wouldn't feel guilty about lying to Tara, well, not lying but withholding some truth.

Basically lying.

I put the car in reverse, backed out of the driveway, put the car in drive and then started on the drive to school.

"I just wanted to know, gosh. But it was good. And I know this is random but I was just thinking about 9th grade you. Your braces were to die for-all bright green just like your car! You were such a nerd, gosh, you didn't even wear makeup!" She laughed at her own memories while I stared at her incriminately as well as I could while driving.

Then I realized I was in control of the wheel and swerved the car, scaring the hell out of Tara. "YOU DICK," she exclaimed and I died laughing.

When we got to school, Sylvia was leaning against a car right next to were I usually park at, looking considerably lonely.

"Syl, what's your prob? Its a good morning, be happy with us!" Tara ran up and hugged her first. Sylvia didn't seen like she was in the mood to hug back, so her arms were just limp noodles by her sides.

"Alec dumped me." Sylvia said as Tara let go of her.

Tara and I looked at each other first with a mocking smile on our faces. Sylvia's head was down, probably so we wouldn't see that joking smile on her face.

"Haha Sylvia, but we know you and you just love to play tricks on us! You and Alec have been going strong for months, why would you stop now?" I said, laughing and rolling my eyes.
