I woke up slowly to someone sweeping a soft hand over my forehead to brush my bangs back. I thought it was my mom or dad and I was at home in bed, but then I had a reality check.

A rush of sensory details flooded into my mind as I opened my eyes. I sensed the smell of nature and an oddly displacing sweet scent, the intense wind, the approaching sunset that was causing the sky to darken, and the presense I felt above me.

I look up to see an angelic face and black hair with red tips. Christina.

I sat up, crossed my legs and faced her. She was in the same position, but her face was higher than mine since she was naturally taller than me.

I must of had a confused look on my face because she asked with a smirk, "What? Surprised to see me?"

I was dumbfounded on how'd she knew I was going to be here.

Her smirk curled even further into a full out grin. "Ha, then it totally worked!" She chuckled to herself, periodically looking back and me and continuing to laugh even harder each time. "You never texted me back after I said, 'Who's dis,' though. I honestly thought you weren't going to show."

The realization of her scheme must of shown on my face because she laughed right before I started shouting, "You didn't think I  was going to show? Are you kidding me, I think I have a little bit more of a reason to complain. I didn't even know you were you! I thought you were some foreign guy who didn't even know who I was! Seriously?! You have no right to say that!" I realized I was getting really pissed off and I had to come to do the exact opposite. I pinched the bridge of my nose, looked down, and sucked in my breath. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...

"You good?" Christina asked, trying to look up under my chin. She sat back upright and did something completely unexpected.

She put her hand on mine and jolted me to look up at her. Although she wasn't looking directly at me, I saw the corcern in her eyes. When I looked up at her face, it was completely emotionless and betrayed no sign of compassion. That was Christina for you, though, one of the most straight up people I know yet so damn mysterious.

Her fingers shifted on my hand, lacing through my own, and she squeezed. It was a familiar action of hers, yet an action that I hadn't felt for a while. I felt both our hearts sync and in that moment, my mind cleared like an eraser had wiped it clean. I remembered the one thing that I had came to do.

"I'm sorry." I blurted out.

The sarcastic remark and familar smirk  that I had braced myself for didn't come. She kept the same stoic face on and stared up into the beam of light in deep thought. She looked prettier than usual because her irises sparkled in the sun, really giving truth to the phrase "from sea to shining sea."

"Liv?" I flinched at someone calling me that, about to reprimand her, but I stopped. She was the only person who I'd let call me that.

She answered my silence with 2 slow blinks and another question. "Remember the summer before 8th grade on July 19th?" She shifted her gaze towards me for a second, without moving her head, and then looked back up towards the sun.

It was the exact event from where I recalled her squeezing my fingers, so I replied, "How could I forget?"

Flashback

Christina and I were visiting the place we called "Plateau Meadow." Sure, I had found it on my own, but it's our place because I would share practically share anything with her.

She was my best friend.

I was on the edges of the meadow searching for flowers. Sure, I mean, there was a lot of flowers in general, but I looking for a rare color in a myriad of purples, yellows and reds. I can't even really say I like flowers because of all the bees that swarm them and all the other dangers of even the prettiest ones, but the collective scent of all the flowers reminded me of my grandma. We honestly weren't close before she passed, but she had the most exotic dried flowers flooding her house, and it always smelt nice.
