Epilogue Two

I looked at the cans of green beans and corn stacked on the clean shelves. I left the cart a foot away from me, reaching for the green beans. I picked up two at a time, tossing them into the cart. Two...Four...Si-shit. The two cans clanked against the ground, making a screech noise once they hit the concrete. The bland, clean tiled floor felt cold as my fingers brushed against it, picking up the two cans.

My hands and arms ached as I pushed the almost empty cart up the aisle to the produce section of the store. I needed tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and a few spices from the aisle next to it. The toes in my shoes were comfy, as I bought them yesterday. They felt like slippers inside, it was amazing. My coat felt warm around my chest. It felt like Winter inside the grocery store, even though it was a blazing Summer just outside the store.

The produce section was bright and filled with luscious greens, with beautiful sweet fruits just behind them. In Sacramento, the air was thick, as thick as it always was with the Summer haze. I looked around for the tomatoes, glancing at them, before going past, then quickly turning around to them like the idiot I am. The red tomatoes were pure, and I could imagine the crisp feel of the skin being sliced when I would make the salsa for Dad and I.

I picked a few good looking tomatoes, before strolling right on pass the cilantro, like I did with tomatoes. I picked up two or three bunches before deciding the bunch on the bottom of the stack looked best. My cart's wheels swiveled under the pressure as I pushed onward to the onions. Usually for the salsa for Dad, he'd prefer white onions. I went with the red onions instead, since they give the salsa not only better texture, but a sharper flavor.

Oops! I almost forgot the lemons and limes for the tacos, maybe even for the salsa if he so wished. I picked the limes and lemons which had little dents in them, meaning they had hit the dirt, instead of being picked off the tree, making them the most ripe. My hair was frizzy from the humidity outside, making me want to not go outside anymore. I went around an old lady, man, how lucky she was. To be able to have died at an old age. Hell, I died at fifteen.

I hear a thud , loud behind me. Uh oh. Another one. God's taken another. It's so weird to think that lots of people fall in love at this grocery store. I turn to look behind me. She was in a bloody hospital gown. Her skin was tan and the freckles went round of her blue eyes? Her sobs were loud and the snot coming out of her nose was absolutely dreadful to look at. Fine, I'll be nice. I pulled a tiny package of tissues out of my purse along with some hand sanitizer. I crouched down onto both my knees, just in front of her.

Her hair was greasy and in an extremely messy bun. She looked extremely exhausted. I couldn't blame her. It looked as if she...died from childbirth maybe? How sad...To just be ripped away from your loved ones. What if she has a family? What will her husband do? Aside from being torn away from your family, your husband, the man you loved has to move on. To find another love to make him just as happy as before. That fucking sucks dick.

She screamed, her scream piercing my ears. She sobbed harder and I went over to her back. I rubbed her shoulders as she bawled, along with her neck. Damn, she might make me cry. I turned her lightly to where her face would be facing me, but as of right now, it's just her greasy bun. I pulled her into my chest and rubbed her back firmly. She screamed, her tears flooded against my shirt. Her voice was crackling and she just cried. She cried and cried and that's all she did.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a few minutes of sobbing as hard as I've ever seen, she finally relaxed in my arms, yet she still cried. Her blue eyes looked up at me and something shimmered, something changed. A light, a sparkle, a switch in her pupil dilation, something. Oh my God, oh my...fuck... Alexis?
"Alexis?"
Her eyes opened, fully dilated. I had definitely gotten her attention. Her eyes were a light pink color, the area around it was puffy and bright read, like the tomatoes in the cart. She looked at me for what felt like forever, and she screamed in tears once again, her wrapping her long arms around me and holding me close. Her tears were soaking me, drenching me in her sadness and need of comfort.
"Sadie!"
She cracked. Her voice was frail, I could barely understand what she had said. I wrapped her up in my arms. I picked her up with all my might, and set her in the cart. I pushed onward towards the front of the store. The cart was much harder to push now, her weight pressing down on the wheels, even more the dinner stuff did. I set the cart right in front of the cashier worker. She took the items from the cart and slid them across the bar scanner.
"Sadie?"
"Yes, Alexis?"
"Why... Why am I he-here? Shouldn't I be i-in he-hell or som-something?"
Both the cashier and I chuckled heartily at Alexis' words.
"I'll explain it to you later. As of right now, we need to go home and talk to Dad."
"Dad?! He's here, too?!"
"Of course. I'll tell you later."
She grunted and I saw the tears return in her eyes. She was frightened. That's okay, I was too when I got here, but then again, I was fifteen and I was prepared  to be here. She turned around in the cart, to look at the frozen food aisles as I handed the cashier the money. The lady pulled the cart through on her side, and I grabbed the bar. Alexis looked at me with sadness in her eyes, then to directly behind me. I heard a thud.
"Harry!"
She jumped out the cart, her legs knocking all of the bagged groceries onto the floor, even breaking some of the glass products breaking against the floor. The cashier looked up at me and I looked back guiltily. I turned over to Alexis, seeing her still sprinting down, to a man. To a curly haired man, with a noose still wrapped around his neck.
