10:42am.

8 more minutes.

8 minutes that felt like forever.

8 minutes until my best friend would make one of the biggest mistakes of her high school life.

It was Monday, and Sunny had promised me that she was going to confess to Drae.

"Mr. Bakers!" A booming voice barked in my direction.

I jumped in my seat, my train of thought came to screeching stop as I looked around and realized where I was.

Math class, applied.

Other kids in their desks turned to snicker at me. I  felt a blush stretching across my face, and I quickly held my cheeks with my hands. Blushing wasn't very manly- but it was something I couldn't stop.

"That's the second time today." Our teacher Mr. Smith hissed. I met his irritated gaze through his darkly rimmed glasses.

"S-sorry Mr. Smith." I muttered, lowering my hands from my face.

"Now that I have your attention, can you come and answer the question on the board?"

He raised an eyebrow and stroked the thick mustache above his lip. Mr. Smith seemed to be able to grow hair everywhere besides his head.

I looked past him at the blackboard. Triangles of all sizes were drawn in white chalk.

What had we even been doing?

Slowly I got up from my desk and moved down the isle. The class was dead quiet, the only sounds I could hear were my footsteps and the steady pounding of my heart-beat. Everyone's eyes were on me as I reached the board, and stared up at triangle A.

Find angle X.

I took a tiny piece of chalk, and reached up to solve the question. I stopped when l realized I was standing on the tip of my toes.

Laughter errupted in the class.

I couldn't reach angle X, the board was too damn big and it was at the very top.

The taunts began, nicknames were flung at me like rocks.

"Pffft! He's too little to reach!"

"Pipsqueak!"

"Dwarf!"

"Elf!"

"Shortie!"

I clenched my jaw and ground my teeth together as I scribbled something on the board where I could reach.

"Class! That's enough!" Mr. Smith barked.

I put the chalk back down, and turned allowing the class to see an arrow pointing to point X.

"I found your angle."

I swallowed down the urge to curse. It was an overused joke I admit, used by airheads when they didn't know an answer on a test.

A few chortles bubbled up from the crowd.

The bell rang just as I returned my desk. Everyone got up. Since I had entertained people with my joke, I was rewarded with a few pats on the back and a single ruffle of my hair.

"Hayden." Mr. Smith's voice pulled me out of the mob, who I had been trying to filter with into the halls unnoticed.

I gave him an innocent smile over my shoulder. Maybe he'd let me off easy. No such luck.
