"The start is a new chapter, a new book, a new beginning"

*Emily*

"Catherine, are you done yet? You've been in there for ages." I shout at my annoying roommate, who has indeed taken absolutely forever in the loo.

"Calm you ovaries I'm almost done." Rolling my eyes I wait anxiously outside the bathroom door. I frequently check my watch and the more seconds that pass the later I get for work. Not that a barista couldn't wait, but it was a very high street one. It's not that I couldn't be late though, I had time.

"Alright I'm out, now you may go in." She calmly walks out with perfectly curled hair, which matches her sharp eyeliner. Liquid I may add. Not to mention her amazing cheek bones, contoured to a new level if you ask me. "Okay I get the fact your bi or some shit but you don't need to stare."

"Did I do the thing again?" By the thing I meant the stare at her head to toe. Make a mental note to stop doing that. "Wait, if your my girlfriend doesn't that give me a right to stare?" I smirk at her as she laughs leaning in to kiss me for the day. She still gives me butterflies every time, and she still manages to make me melt just the same as the very first time we kissed.

"Okay now you've got to get ready, I promise to take you out tonight." She smiles at me while almost pushing me into the bathroom.

Sighing at the thought if her leaving for work while I brush out my overly wavy hair before even trying to straighten it. As I try to turn on the monstrous device the door bell rang a couple times as I drop the thing and run to the door.

"Emily, hi I'm just here to say the PDA will not be tolerated in this building. And you should stop right now." Our very creepy landlord walks in and sit himself on my couch.

"I'm going to have to tell you to the tenth time in a row, but Cath left like ten minutes ago and how would you know that she kissed me today?" I felt slightly bad about calling him out but some things are necessary to do it that meant calling out the creepy guy with binoculars.

"I just do, anyways, Emily do you happen to be free tonight? I could make-"

"Just reminding you I do indeed have plans and a girlfriend so if you will please walk yourself out that would be great." While saying this I slightly drag him out and close the door behind him.

Sighing for the seventh time this mourning I walk over to my closet and pick out a lovely maroon dress and a gorgeous belt to go with it. Striding back to the bathroom with a finally heated straightener, and as in the name I glide the device down my hair. Afterwards I put on my makeup and grab my purse then walk out locking the door.

"Ms. Johnson I would like to speak to you afterwards." My manager pulls me away from my order station. I follow him because well I was going on my break anyways might as well get something done with so. "Well, I'm going to half to let you go. We're getting downsized to a point where we can't keep employment. I am very sorry you can pick up your last check in the mail. Have a good day Ms. Johnson." I nod at him not finding the right words to say, I'm really not surprised I just wish I could have quit before like I was going to.

"Alright, do you want me to finish my shift or am I free to go home?" I didn't give much thought about being fired, I now had enough experience to get a job way better than this one.

"It's really up to you, you've just lost your job so if you want to go for it and leave. Or you can stay until your shift ends. Entirely up to you." His hands are folded on his desk while I'm just shift my weight on my feet, which ache like crazy.

"Well I'm just going to clock out and wait for that check. Have a good day Mr. Warren." I swirl on my feet and walk out like I owned the damn place. I really have been waiting for this moment ever since I started working there.

I look around to see who's here as if it was empty, but I was really looking for my favourite section of books to see if he ordered it like he said he would. By he I mean Elliot, the sweetest old man I know. Picking out 'Room' by Emma Donoghue I make my way to the front, hoping he could pull some string and just let me borrow instead of buying like he usually would.

"Hey Elliot do you think you can spare me just one more book? I have the other-" I look above my book and my bag, seeing a decently handsome guy for someone who doesn't cut his hair for some reason.

"He's not here at the moment so if you don't mind, 13.50 please." A small smirk was on his face as he said that, obviously, his smooth personality is gleaming bright through his black tee shirt.

"I would but you see, I only pay guys when it's worth it. So, you think there's a chance you can swing it? I'll bring it back in tip top shape, I promise." I flutter my eyelashes at him to see if he'll bite.

"You see I would swing it I just don't give a rats arse about your excessive eyelashes or borrowing of books and I don't know what-"

"Harry, are you giving Emily a hard time? Emily, please tell me if he's giving you a hard time because I can fix that." This so called Harry looks at me with a sarcastic look as if that was his gramps who had just done that.

"Well he was being a bug, so I'm assuming he's a complete stranger who broke in here and is forcing me to pay for a book a gave this place. Other that he's fine." I look at Elliot as if I'm an angel who's trying to sweet talk him, which I'm actually trying to do, into letting me borrow a book.

"Well, I guess you can borrow that book for a bit, if you hit my nephew on the back if the head for me." Chuckling he half hugs his, very surprisingly, nephew.

"Don't mind if I do." I kindly swat him on the back of the head. Well it's not like I just randomly swat guys heads but this time it was acceptable.

"Ow! You actually hit me?" His whiny voice filled the room, and the damn street.

"Oh calm down princess it's not the end of the world or anything." Slightly shocked I'm not stuttering or messing up at all while say this to him. It's very weird bugging someone I've never met before either.

"Anyways, thank you Elliot, I'll bring it back by tomorrow." I say as I walk out on my very clumsy feet, which are accompanied by very uncomfortable heels. Well I guess first impressions are alway important for every one.
