I sat there and had an awkward staring match with the huge guy sitting accross from me. "So um, what's your name? Mine is Phoebe.", I gave a hesitant smile. He just stared at me, but I think I saw something in his eyes.
"Alexander.", He spoke in a low voice, and din't say much else.
"Thank you for earlier.", I said, again, just to fill up the silence. I started to feel uncomfortable as he just sat there.
"Do you need anything?", I asked in confusion. I was unsure of why he was still here.
"No.", I gave an awkward smile. I moved as I heard Luca crying. He was awake and looking around in a panic. I hurried over and wrapped my arms around him.
"Is daddy going to get us mummy?", He asked in a small voice. I sushed him and rocked.
"He's not gooing to get us, I promise. I'll do everything to protect you.", I told him. I tried to stop myself from crying. He's five, he shouldn't have to worry about things like this.
It took a while but I finally managed to get him back off to sleep. I tried to put him down but he clung to me and whimpered. I sighed and held him, pulling the blanket around us. "I'll be back tomorrow.", Alexander murmured as he left.
Back for what? I thought in confusion. I decided to forget about that and snuggled down into the bed with my son. I stroked his hair until I eventually fell asleep.
I was awoken the next morning with my sons excited chattering. In my half asleep state I didn't think anything of it...until I woke up a bit more and suddenly realised my son was talking to someone. I shot up and looked around, almost screaming when I saw a hulking figure sitting at the table, my son on his lap.
I shot out of bed, ready to fight until I realised it was Alexander. I sat heavily on the bed and took a deep breath. Now that I had calmed down I realized I probably wouldn't have even fought, probably would have screamed and tried to grab my son.
I looked up as Alexander stood in front of me. "You okay?", He asked gruffly, I gave him a shaky nod.
Luca came up to me, excitedly showing me one of his comics. I pulled him onto my lap and listened intently as he rattled of all the 'Awesome' things in it. I smiled and chatted to him, all the while being aware that Alexander was still in the room.
I stared at the phone as it started ringing, holding Luca back as he moved to answer it. I looked desperately to Alexander and watched him as he moved and answered the phone. I stood up as I caught Natasha's voice. I tok the phone off Alexander and said hello.
"Hey Phoebe, what time will you be ready to come look at the cottage? I won't be expecting you to start work today, so you can have plenty of time to get settled.", Natasha spoke quickly.
"I'll be ready in an hour, are you busy?", I asked, I put Luca down and watched as he dragged the huge man towards the table and pulled another comic out of the bag.
"Yes, sorry. I'm showing a house to this new couple in town. I'll come pick you up in an hour, then. See you later.", She hung up before I had a chance to reply. I smiled and hung up the phone.
"Mummy?", I looked over to see Luca staring at me and I realised I was crying again. I wiped my face and gave him a smile.
"Do you want to go see our new house today?", I asked excitedly. He nodded and hurried to pull out his clothes. WIth no shame whatsoever he got undressed and tried to put his clothes on.
"Luca, you don't get undressed in front of people.", I scolded. I moved him into the bathroom and closed the door slightly.
"How did you get in?", I asked curiously.
