Chapter Eight: Karaoke Night
(POV- Clarity Evers)
I smile to myself as I fix the mic still thinking about the incident that happened about a week ago.
After being in a closet with River he dragged me out and I faced my dad for the first time in years.
It didn't go very peachy but it did not go as bad as I thought it would.
I accused him of things he said he was sorry but he clearly didn't show it. The truth is I'm just not ready to forgive him. There's time to forgive and I just don't want to say I forgive you when I truly don't mean it.
It's a big step forward, I know. But I'm just not ready. Maybe I need to mature or something but now.. I don't think so.It just doesn't feel right to have my father after all these years stroll back in and say sorry. It's as if he wants me to forget. I can't do that.
It didn't really seem like he cared because he just knitted his eyebrows and nodded before leaving.If he does not care then what is the point. I finally realize that I should not let a person who could care less about me ruin my life. I have people that love me and those are the people I should spend my time thinking about.
I feel a nudge in my side and Aspyn appears with a sly smile.
"Why are you blushing and smiling like an idiot?" She asks teasingly poking my cheek and I swat her hand away.
"Stop it!"
"I knew it!" She yells triumphantly.
"What?" I ask panicking. She's onto me.
"That son of bitch won your heart didn't he? Those eyes right?" She asks and I laugh.
"Maybe." I reply shyly playing with a loose thread on my sweater.
She then wiggles her eyebrows and adds
"That's why you guys lasted an eternity in that damn closet. Clarity!" Aspyn pretend scolds and I playfully shove her.
"Aspyn shut up! I could bring up a lot of things about Aaron." I threaten and she freezes her eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
"Um let's not." She stutters and I laugh.
"Let's not bring up that hickey." I say teasingly and she puts her hands over her face.
Just as I start laughing and she curses under her breath. I hear the door open and in come Aaron and River.
Aaron searches the room for Aspyn and I smile thinking how sweet that guy is as Aspyn greets him with a hug. Aaron whispers something in her ear as he tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and her face turns redder. I laugh watching her thinking this is too comical. They are the cutest thing ever.
I feel a tug on my hand and I look down at my hand being intertwined with River's. I glance up and I'm met with his eyes. Those exotic orbs staring intently into mine. He winks and I smile.
I hear mom who is holding Shaye come down dressed nicely for karaoke night and she smiles at me but quickly her eyes flicker to River behind me and her smile widens. Her gaze then falls to our intertwined hands and she breaks into a full out grin.
