A whole week later, the science projects were due. Amber and Hildegard had just concluded their project about sparkly gems.
"Very good," said Fauna. "Now next up is The Scoop on Skeletons by Prince Hugo."
Since Hugo could barely do anything himself with just one arm, Sofia went up to help him.
"Just last week, I was riding my flying horse when I crashed into a tree and hurt my arm," Hugo explained. "Lady Melody said I had a minor fracture in my bone. Here's the picture of my arm." He held up his X-ray picture for everyone to see.
"I know what you're thinking—you wish you never had any bones to break," Hugo told his classmates. "But we need bones in our bodies because they keep us moving. Without our bones, we'd be all mushy and floppy. Our friend, Mr. Bonehead, can show us all the bones we have in our bodies."
Lady Melody brought her skeleton model in, and Sofia brought it to where Hugo was standing.
"This is what our skeleton looks like," Hugo continued. "My injury is very minor, but big breaks in bones can be serious, especially if you break your neck or—worst of all—your skull. The skull is the head bone, and it protects your brain. If your skull doesn't grow correctly, that can be serious. Now depending on how bad your injury is, it takes time to heal. Lady Melody treated my arm by putting a cast on it, so it can heal. Some injuries can be so bad that you'd need an operation, so the doctor can put your bones back in place. That way our bones can heal properly. As I said before, our bones keep our bodies moving, which is very important for athletes. Now that you know why we have bones in our bodies, you're probably thankful you're not flopping all over the place."
Everyone started giggling.
"Well, I want to thank Princess Sofia for helping me since I could barely do this with my arm in a cast," Hugo said.
Everyone clapped for Hugo's presentation.
"Very good, Prince Hugo," said Fauna. "Next is Clean & Green by Princess Sofia."
Sofia helped put Hugo's stuff away and gathered her own things.
"It's very important to go green and do good for Mother Nature," Sofia said. "One important thing we need to do to go green is to put our trash where it belongs. If we leave our trash lying around, it can be a very big problem. It can even be dangerous. As you can see already, Prince Hugo here hurt his arm when he crashed into a tree."
Hugo went up to Sofia and showed his peers his cast.
"Hugo, you wouldn't mind telling us why you got hurt in the first place, would you?" Sofia asked.
"Well, the reason I crashed into that tree in the first place is because a newspaper flew into my face and I couldn't see where I was riding," Hugo explained.
Sofia turned to her classmates and said, "You see, if you leave your trash lying around, it could hurt the animals and maybe even people. The best way to prevent anything like this is to put our trash where it belongs: in the recycling bin or the garbage can. Okay, thank you, Hugo, for helping me out and telling us how dangerous littering is."
Everyone clapped for Sofia's presentation. Fauna and Lady Melody were both very impressed with Sofia's and Hugo's projects. Sofia and Hugo were very proud of themselves, but they knew that their experiences with Lady Melody had inspired them to do their projects. They wanted to thank her for helping them, and they thought she deserved a proper welcome to Royal Prep.
