"Kate, where were you?" Reese asked, as they sat down at their usual lunch table. They always sat at the same table with the same people. Most of the time Kate and Reese were deep in their own conversation. Which meant they didn't really talk to the other people at their table.
"Had to work," Kate sighed. She wished that she didn't have to work, but her family really needed the money.
"I know you always work in the morning, but why were you so late?" She asked with concern laced in her tone.
"It was nothing. Just a customer stayed a little longer than I had anticipated." Kate really did not want to talk about what had happened this morning with Luke.
As she was eating and making small talk with some of the people at her table, and then it got really quiet. Like super quiet and that's not normal for a high school cafeteria.
Apparently, the principle, Mr. Williams, had yet another stupid announcement concerning prom this year.
Your typical white girl would go absolutely crazy about prom. Not Kate. She had never been the type to care about getting dressed up and slow dancing, but last year her and her younger sister, Sadie, made a bet. When it was prom season her and Sadie betted that if Tommy, her older brother, could get a date then Kate would have to find a date next year for prom. Sadly, Tommy actually had a date.
So, this year she had to find a date and at this point she didn't really care who she just needed one.
"Are you thinking about that stupid bet again?" Reese asked while she ate her chips.
"How did you know?" Kate smiled. Her best friend knew her so well.
"Holy shit!" Some at there table exclaimed. Kate thought it was a girl named Bailey.
"What?" Kate asked, joining a conversation that she invited herself into.
"Since when is the Luke Hemmings in this lunch period?" Bailey squealed staring at the blonde headed boy.
Kate had recognized him from the diner this morning. She had never seen him in this lunch period either.
"He's a senior right?" A person asked that Kate had not known the name of.
"Yup," Bailey replied. Kate was also right about that.
"What do you stalk him?" Reese joked, which caused Kate to laugh and Bailey to give her a death glare. "It was just a joke."
That caused Kate to laugh even more and louder. Her loud, obnoxious laugh caused Luke to look over at here. He had sat down at the table across from their's.
She immediately covered her mouth making sure she did not snort or anything more embarrassing. She knew that her checks were tinted pink.
Luke just smirked and engaged in conversation with the talk blonde that was sitting next to him. He was hoping that he could possibly get a quickie out of it. She was pretty hot, but he's seen hotter.
Kate could not stop looking at Luke and his barbie. She was gorgeous, but she seemed a little trashy. No wonder she was sitting with Luke.
The bell rang and Kate left the cafeteria to go to her locker. Once she opened her locker she felt a tap and her shoulder and she had realized it was Luke.
"Take a picture it will last longer," He whispered as he walked away. God, she hated him.

Her brother was twenty minutes late to pick her up and she was really annoyed.
First off, Luke and that blonde from earlier had just drove by and Luke winked at Kate. Why can't he just leave her alone? Like he said she's just some random waitress.
Secondly, her physics teacher, Mr. Mac, was being totally unfair when he graded her group's project. Which caused her grade to go down a lot.
And now her brother is late to picking her up. It's literally the best day ever. She just wanted to go home and watch netfix.
Her brother had never showed up, so she had to call her Mother and ask her to pick her up on her way home from work.
"How was your day, sweetheart?" Her Mother asked, as soon she enter the vehicle.
"Honestly, it was terrible."
"Aw, what happened?" Her mom asked. Kate told her parents almost everything.
"There was some jerk at the diner and he literally took forever and it made me very late," Kate pouted. "Then, he bugs me at school and then, my teacher gave me an unfair grade. To top it all off Tommy never picked me up!"
"I'm sorry you had a bad day, honey," Her mother sighed. "Who is this boy you were talking about?"
"Luke," Kate replied.
"Hemmings?"
"How did you know?" Kate asked. She was confused. How did her Mom know who he was?
"Kate, dear, I don't want you going near that boy."
"Wait, why?"
"Your Father and I have our reasons, Kate. Just stay away from him, okay?" Her Mother seemed nervous. Kate of course agreed and she didn't know why her parents were so worried, but she wasn't going to disobey.
