We were all given a necklace when we were born. Not just any necklace, though. You see, these necklaces we are given are designed to turn a deep, royal, blue when we are near our soulmate. This all happened when divorce rates got so out of control. There were so many unhappy families from all the divorces that people forgot how to love. Friendships were broken, relationships between a mother and her children were damaged, and bonds between siblings were shattered. With all this hate in the world, crime rates rose exceedingly high. People were killing each other, stealing whenever they felt like it, and many other horrible things. The government knew something had to be done, but what? How could they even begin to bring love back into a nation that was so full of hate?
One day, a scientist named Dr. Thompson was experimenting in his lab. He discovered when someone is around their soulmate, their heart releases a small dosage of a hormone that is only released in your body when you are near your soulmate. This hormone seemingly has no purpose because it has no affect on your body. Dr. Thompson decided to see how this hormone responds to certain situations. Although Dr. Thompson couldn't figure out what this hormone was made of, he did discover that when combined with salt water, the hormone turns a deep, royal, blue color. Dr. Thompson wasn't sure what to do with this information, but he was so intrigued by the hormone, he tried to learn everything about it. A few weeks later, after many failed attempts, he discovered where exactly the hormone was produced. It lived in a tiny pocket inside the heart and if you removed it, no damage was done to the body. Then, the idea struck him. What if people could be able to hold on to this hormone so they can see when their soulmate was near?
He immediately ran to the White House to tell of his new discovery. They came up with the idea to put the hormone in necklaces and give them (if asked for) to you at birth. The government knew this was the solution to the nationwide crisis, but would cost too much money to give a necklace to everyone right away. So they began to give them to newborn children and slowly the nation was beginning to learn to love again.
100 years later, our nation had a divorce rate of 2% and crime rates were at an all time low. The majority of the population found their soulmate between the ages of 15-17. But there was one problem, I'm 16 and still haven't found mine.
