We managed to keep it hidden from them throughout the diner, to my surprise. Even so, it didn't feel like much of a victory.
The more the evening went on, the more I realized I wanted to just move ahead with my goal. Everything else can wait. Eithan will be there after.
I explained this to Sarah, alone, in the library room. So far she didn't like it.
The library room is amazing. In the high white walls of the room, were bookshelves filled with books. It was beautiful. There were rows of bookshelves in the room as well, and a little sitting area in the center.
The sitting area consisted of four beautiful comfy chairs and a little table in the middle of them, with a few books on it, with a vase of beautiful roses.
Sarah walks in front of me and glances at the books on the bookshelf on her left. "You don't see the importance, do you?"
"Importance of what? Of killing King Dameo? Yes, Yes I do."
She laughs and shakes her head. "No, about you and Eithan." She clarifies, confusing me.
As she realizes I wasn't going to ask why, she continues, "When Dameo is dead, the civilians won't know what to do next. They will end up in chaos, due to their confusion. You and Eithan need to be there right away and be sure of where you both are headed after this. That way, when they celebrate his death, we can quickly guide them to order by announcing and arranging your marriage."
That way they won't hate us. Won't hate Eithan because he's from the same bloodline as Dameo. The civilians will be in a celebrating cheer at first, but if they had time to think about it once their high is diminished from king Dameo's death, then they might start rebelling against Eithan too. They are all used to rebelling. Once that is gone, they might miss it. And take it out on Eithan.
Sarah smiles at me and gestures to follow her to the sitting area, where she sits down, and offers me to sit.
"I know the two of you have admitted your feelings for one another," she starts, "you can't hide this from an old woman like me." She finishes, smiling. "Your faces tonight at the diner table were very neutral. Too neutral. You were both trying way too hard to be normal and gave yourselves away." She pauses, "that and you were holding hands, underneath the table. Very sweet."
Embarrassment flows to my cheeks, turning me red I'm sure, as she spoke this. She knew. Of course she knew. It was silly to think she didn't.
"That and I have a few people constantly watching you." She adds.
"Even in the bedroom?" I ask, worried, though my gut told me I already knew the answer.
She nods. "Of course sweetheart. Especially your bedroom."
So she's seen everything? Or just knows of everything? The second one seemed more likely.
Even though I knew from the beginning this would happen, that I would get no privacy, it still felt a bit awkward.
"So what about tomorrow?" I ask.
She smiles. "The ball is tomorrow, sweety. We need to prepare during the day and then, if I deem you as worthy, you get my reward."
"And what is this award?" I ask, really curious. She says it would help me on taking down Dameo, which, after all his newly found Defense, I might just need it.
"It wouldn't be fun to ruin the surprise until the ball, no?"
My eyes grew wide. She was going to reveal it in front of everyone at the ball? Surely she couldn't be this stupid. Who's to say that Dameo's men won't be in the crowd spying. Or maybe even Dameo?
