Chapter 3

Teddy jittered as he stood in front of the stool where the sorting hat sat. He was anxious to get to his house, and meet all his new friends. Though, he was scared. He wanted to make sure he lived up to his mom and dads' standards, but didn't want to be too uptight.

"Gerino, Cormac." Professor McGonnagall yelled, and Teddy's shaking stopped for a few seconds. Was he going to be a Hufflepuff?

"Hmmm... difficult. Let's say... Hufflepuff!" the sorting hat yelled over the small chatter between new house members and prefects. Teddy smiled at Cormac and quickly began to vibrate again. More and more students were called, and the group of first years at the front was quickly thinning. Finally, his name was called.

"Lupin, Edward." Teddy stepped up to the stool and sat on it, clenching the seat with his hands. "Ah, very difficult. I see you have a lot of nerve and bravery, but you also seem to have a kind attitude. You're loyal, and stand up for what's right. For this I'm going to say... HUFFLEPUFF!"

The rest of the Hufflepuffs at the table clapped and cheered as he sat down near the head of the table.

"Hi. I'm Jessie, I'm the Hufflepuff prefect. Welcome to Hufflepuff! Do you go by Edward or Eddie?"

"Actually, it's Teddy. Odd situation."

Teddy and Jessie talked about school for a little until an old man began talking.

"Now you are all sorted, the feast may begin!"

Food appeared on the silver platters in front of them. There was roast beef, pulled pork, roasted vegetables, and fruits of every colors.

"That's the headmaster of the school. His name is Fabrian, but everyone calls him by his last name, Darsilen" Cormac whispered to Teddy as he shoveled stewed tomatoes into his mouth.

"When did he shtart being headmraster?" Teddy asked Cormac through a large forkful of pork.

"He was the first headmaster here after the battle of Hogwarts in 1998 when Severus Snape died."

"Oh."

"Did you know him or something?"

"No, but my parents were good friends with him; he was in the Order of the Phoenix with them. But I never knew him."

"Well, either way, it looks like we need to go back to the common rooms. FIRST YEARS, FOLLOW ME!"

Teddy followed Jessie all the way back to the common room close behind him to make sure not to get lost.

"To get into the common room, you need to tap on this barrel, " Jessie pointed to one of the barrels in a pile "in the pattern of 'Helga Hufflepuff'." They all walked through an opening that emerged into a warm room with a fire in a circular grate. "Boys common room to the left, girls to the right. Your stuff should be there already.
