The air is stale as the stench of dead bodies fill the valley. A wasteland, bodies piled on top of bodies, some with no limbs, others with missing heads. a drastic scene. crumpled down buildings, blood tainting the walls that remain as they create an ocean of death.

"why?" asks a girl lying on the ground beaten and near to death. she stared off at the remains of the once proud and happy people. "why did this happen?" she said unable to control her tears. with every ounce of her being she tilted her body to gaze up at the sky. clouded and sad just like her. she sighed glaring at her severed arm. "Eddy" she says with her dying breath as she lies there motionless.

[5 years before]

The girl sat in a classroom staring out the window ignoring the instructor as he gave his lecture.

"Miss Idols, care to join the rest of the class? this will be on next weeks exam you know."

The girl turned at the call of her name, she sighed making eye contact with the teacher, he seemed annoyed. She looked down at her notebook where she was suppose to be taking notes and saw nothings but a chewed up pencil. She fidgeted in her seat to get comfortable. She yawned resting her head on her hand to keep herself from falling asleep. Today was a long day, one of many. The school year had just started and she already wanted it to end.

The sound of the bell came as a relief. She gathered her things and made her way to the door when her instructor called out her name. "yes Mr. Bastain?" she said turning to meet his eyes once again.

"you seem troubled, is everything okay?" he asked leaning against his desk.

Guen stepped aside to let the other students pass, she didn't need this, not right now. "everything's fine Mr."

"is it now?" he interrupted moving closer to her "your grade on last weeks test was less than average and you don't seem to be focusing in class, is everything really okay?"

"With all due respect sir, this isn't for me, I come to school because i have to, not because i want to"

Mr. Bastain sighed hearing another student knock on the open door before coming in wearing black skinny jeans, a black leather jacket and a white beanie "does he have anything to do with this?"

"he's like my brother sir" replied Guen turning to face the other student "now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to lunch"

The teacher sighed watching them as they walked away, he turned and sat down on his chair to prepare for the next lesson.

"so what was that about?" asked the boy with the white beanie putting his hands on his head.

"its nothing, don't worry about it" replied Guen lifting up her purse to look through it.

The boy with the beanie paused when she pulled out a small carton of cigarettes "again?" he asked shaking his head.

"what?" she replied stopping at the edge of the line of classrooms "you coming or not?"

The boy sighed following her out the gate and onto the football field. "I thought you said you'd quit smoking when we started high school"

"and i thought you were done being a little girl"

"snappy today aren't we?"

The girl sighed sitting on one of the bleachers "I'm sorry, its just been a long day"

The boy sighed as she lit her cigarette and took a deep puff before handing it to him "I know how you feel" he said smoking it "but its not like we can do anything about it" he handed it back to her and gave her a smile "we just have to endure it till we can get out of this place, I'm sure the Loids would like that"
