Beyonce woke up the next morning and heard some whimpering. She slipped on a silk robe and slippers, heading towards the sound. When the sound got louder, she looked up and saw she was in front of Ava's room.
"She must be having a nightmare," thought Beyonce.
Slowly opening the door, she walked inside and saw Ava in the corner. Her pajamas were soaking wet along with her bed. Ava looked up with pure fear in her eyes, which broke Beyonce's heart. As she walked closer to Ava, the little girl inched further away from her.
"Honey talk to me..."
Those little eyes which were welled up with tears looked up at her. What Beyonce saw in her eyes made her own eyes fill up with tears. She never seen such a young child who must've been through so much trauma in her short life. She held her arms and heart wide open for her daughter. Ava instantly got up and ran into her mom's arms, crying.
"It's okay honey. Mamma's got you... I'm right here," said Beyonce, trying to soothe her. But the tears kept flowing. Hearing her daughter crying pulled at her heart. She wanted to cry with her... she wanted to cry FOR her. But she needed to be strong for her daughter.
So she thought of one of the only things that could potentially calm her down. She started to sing a song that was passed down from her grandmother to her mother and down to her. Hoping that the song had a positive effect on Ava. And once Ava has kids of her own in the future, she would sign this song to her kids.
The sobs got quieter, but the grip she held on Beyonce's shirt grew tighter. She never felt this type of love and compassion for her. And it overwhelmed her. Ava never knew what it felt like to truly be loved. But is this truly what love's suppose to be?
"Do you feel a little better now?"
She nodded her head a little and gave Beyonce a thumbs up, which made her smile and sigh in relief. They both sat there for a moment, snuggling up with one another. Eventually they stopped and got up, heading for the kitchen. Ava pulled out a container of leftover macaroni and cheese, holding it up to Beyonce.
"You want macaroni and cheese... you have to eat at least one vegetable with it okay?"
Ava nodded and held out some broccoli and peas. Beyonce nodded and began to heat up the food. As she did so, Ava headed to her high chair and tried getting up there herself. By the time Beyonce had their plates ready and was heading to the table, Ava was already in the high chair waiting patiently.
"Ready to eat," she asked.
Ava smiled and nodded, her stomach growling loudly. Beyonce gave her a plate and they both sat together, eating at the same table. As they ate together, the doorbell rang.
"If you don't open this door.. I'm gonna beat your ass," a voice yelled. That scared Ava and she got up and hid in the corner. Beyonce went to the door and slapped her sister across the head.
"Girl shut the fuck up. You scared my daughter half to death...."
Solange stared at her confused than saw a little girl hiding in the corner, looking like a deer caught in headlights.
"Oh shit. I'm sorry..."
Deciding to let it go, Beyonce walked inside to check on Ava. Ava never felt this scared in a long time and she didn't like this feeling.
"Honey it's alright. It's just your auntie Solange. She didn't mean to yell that. She'll apologize to you..."
Then Solange kneeled down in front of her new niece, her eyes filled with regret.
"Honey bun auntie is so sorry for scaring you. I didn't mean to do that. Do you forgive me," she asked the little girl.
Ava looked at her aunt for a moment and smiled a little, which caught the eye of Beyonce. She got up and gave Solange a hug, which shocked both her mom and her aunt.
"She loves you already.. even though you almost scared her to death.."
Solange smiled and stood up, holding Ava in her arms. They all sat at the table and continued talking with each other.
"Ava baby, can me and your mommy talk alone for a little? I promise it won't take long...."
With a simple nod of her head, she was off to the playroom. Beyonce turned to her sister.
"What are you doing her," she questioned Solange.
"I just came into town and wanted to see how my big sister is doing. But I see you are doing good since you adopted Ava. How is she adjusting?"
Beyonce sighed a little and took a sip of wine, "She has her good and bad days. I'm not sure all she's been through. But Solo, it must be so much because it's certain things that can set her off into a bad meltdown."
The two sisters continued to talk about Ava and other things until the little girl ran back towards them, holding a stuffed animal.
"Mommy... Yellow's arm is falling off..."
Solange stared at her sister, wondering who the hell yellow was. Beyonce grabbed the stuffed animal from her daughter and examined it for awhile.
"Yellow is my stuffed aminal teetee, FYI."
Solange raised an eyebrow and turned to her sister, who was trying to hold in her laughter. Beyonce grabbed some needle and thread, sewing the bear's arm back together. Within minutes, Yellow was back to normal.
"Here you go, baby girl. Yellow is good as new.."
Squealing with excitement, Ava grabbed her teddy bear and clutched it close to her chest. She gave her mom a quick side hug and ran to her room.
Solange stood up and walked upstairs, but Beyonce stopped her.
"Uh excuse you... don't you have a hotel room to go to missy?"
Solange shook her head, "I was hoping you would let me crash here with you and my niece for about a week.."
Beyonce sighed and nodded, "Okay fine... you can sleep in the guest room next to my room."
She nodded and gave her sister a hug and kiss before going into the room. Beyonce smiled a little and shook her head, going to her own room.
