Pete is chilling at the Way house while waiting for his best friend's band rehearsals to end. He loved sitting in during practice, it was the one time when Mikey looked completely at ease. Pete truly loved anything that made Mikey happy, almost as much as he loved Mikey.
Later when practice is over all the boys are watching movies and all that. Eventually Pete grows bored and asks Mikey to help him get drinks for everybody, causing all the other guys snicker because it isn't a secret that Pete he may or may not have a massive crush on him. Mikey gets up to follow him when Pete realizes maybe he shouldn't keep openly flirting with Mikey when the other guys were around, they might realize that Pete has is bad for his best friend. When Pete gets Mikey alone in the kitchen, he asks if they can ditch because the movies are pretty boring, according to Pete. Mikey is reluctant because of the teasing they will get if they don't return soon, but he chooses to give Pete the satisfaction and gives in. Pete smiles that grandiose smile of his and motions for Mikey to be quiet and follow him. Pete leads them to the backyard, which confuses Mikey because he was expecting Pete to take him somewhere to drink or smoke or something like that, but a nice evening in the backyard? That didn't seem like his best friend, but he decided against confronting him about it. So Pete sits on the old swing set that hasn't been used since Mikey was 11, waiting for him. Mikey sits and waits for Pete to say some snide remark about the fun they could have while they are alone, yet he never does. In fact, he doesn't say anything. He is just staring at Mikey with his cancer-curing smile, when he suddenly starts uncontrollably giggling, in which Mikey joins in. Pete is now staring at Mikey like he hung the moon, and Mikey asks, "what do you want, Pete?" and Pete, without skipping a beat, "you." Mikey, of course, thinks Pete is just messing with him like he always does, so he tells Pete to shove off. Pete, a little perplexed that Mikey just blew that off, quickly regains his confidence and being the cocky asshole he is, says "You know you love me." And then Mikey mumbles an almost inaudible "I know I do," and Pete is almost sure he wasn't supposed to hear that, yet he did and he freezes because his best friend, who he happens to be in love with, just said he loved him. He then takes this information and runs with it, pulling on Mikey's swing and whispering his name. Mikey looks Pete in the eyes for the first time since realizing he loved him, and before he can say anything, Pete's lips are on his.
