Recap from Chapter Nine:

"Hmm, what's your favorite animal?" The light turns green and we head down the road some more.

"Favorite animal... well, I love all animals, but I especially love dogs," I answer his question, and I see his face light up.

"So, no problems with Gryphon?"

"Are you kidding? He's the cutest thing ever! Second to you, of course," I tease Toby, poking his cheek. He threatens to bite my hand and I retreat from my poking, giggling.

"What's your favorite colour?" he inquires, deciding to poke my cheek now.

I swat his hand away and reply, "Blue. You do realize you're going to have to answer these questions later, right?"

He laughs and nods. "Yeah."

We turn into the apartment lot and he stops the car.

"One last question. Do you like me?"

Toby's P.O.V.

I did not just ask that.

You did not just say that, Toby.

What is wrong with you?! You've known her for a month and you're asking this?!

Oh my God, I'm so stupid!

The tension in the air is impossibly high and I don't move besides taking out the keys. The steady drum of the pouring rain on the roof of my car is the only sound that is heard.

Say something, Toby!

The words are knotted and lodged in my throat as I shake my head.

"I-..." she begins to say.

"No. I don't know what I was saying. I guess it was just something that popped into my head. Don't answer it," I tell, pulling on the door handle and aborting the car.

The rain pelts onto my body and I walk to the door to the apartment building.

"Toby, wait!" I hear Victoria call out for me, but I don't turn around.

Don't ignore her! What is wrong with me?!

"Toby, please!" she cries and I feel a tug on my arm. I spin around. The water is clinging to her hair and soaking into her clothes.

I glare at the ground and then to the clouds above. I hear her shoes against the pavement as she takes a step towards me.

Victoria's P.O.V.

Here goes nothing.

I cautiously take a step towards Toby, frowning slightly. I place my hands on his cheeks and turn his head to where he is forced to look at me.

His eyes delve into mine and I take a deep, yet silent, breath.

I get up on my tiptoes and his eyes follow mine as I lean in and press my lips to his quickly.

Did I just do that?

My lips still pressed against his, the rain pours upon us.

Toby just stands there and I pull away, frowning. His eyes aren't recognisable and I take a step away, hanging my head.

I feel something warm snake into my hand, but I don't bother to look. A tug on my hand pulls me closer to Toby and a hand is place on the small of my back.

"Look at me."

I ignore him and look at the puddles forming around us.

Toby's hand holds my chin and turns it to where I am looking at him and his hazel eyes are gleaming. I turn my body towards him, water dripping from my hair and the tip of my nose.

His head leans down and I soon realize what's happening. I lean in as well as our lips connect, a fire igniting in the pit of my stomach.

Toby's hand goes into my wet hair and I wrap my arms around his torso as I move my lips against his.

He's kissing me back. He's kissing me back. Does this mean...?
