I'd like to thank Colorful-Me for making me my beautiful cover. I know you didn't have to do it but the fact you took your time out to make it makes me feel beyond appreciative. Thank you and Enjoy!!!

Nalani

As I walked on stage I was nervous af. This was my 1st time doing this. Sharing my work with others and showing what we've accomplished working with the people in our program. I hadn't experienced the nervousness before the event. I guess now it was all overwhelming to take it.

A year ago I was no even thinking of this. I was probably drunk in a bar knocked out. Or sleeping in bed next to a man I didn't even know. Life was getting better but the pain of my mothers death was still fresh.

"Welcome All to our 1st PoeticTactics mic night. This a big think for some our performers tonight."
The audience started clapping which gave Porcha time to walk on stage and finish the intro.

"Yea me and Lani here have been working on this project for about a year. So our kids and young adults or any ages period. Can express their stories. Now we all know how the streets of Brooklyn are selling dope and all the other crude things. But this program keeps ours safe from those harms and off the streets. It instead helps them express those issues. Now without any further due...."

She paused and we both said in unison "let's begin!!!"

We walked off but before I walked off I could see Ms. Fulton smirking at us for some reason so I brushed it off as Chaylin, Amaiya and Kayden were first to go. They looked nervous so I hugged them and gave them all hot fives.

When Lani I think ha' name was, was giving ha' intro I couldn't help but stare. Shawty was gawgeous. I saw Cha smirking at me while Lani was giving ha' speech. She thought that shit was funny tryna set me up wit ha'. She was bad but I had Yas. Even tho she had been acting strange lately. I still had love for my baby gal.

Just as her friend was finishing up the speech. I glanced at my phone seeing I had 15 missed calls from Yas I would call her back later. It was packed as shit in here and I couldn't step out because my nieces was 1st performers. I'm surprised nobody noticed a Yungin' in here.

Everyone started clappin' as my aces came on stage. My nieces was my everything. The only living proof of Mel I had left. I sure as hell was gon keep it that way. They not getting boyfriends till they 60. Prolly never if I'a have a say about it. The only boy they needed in they life is me.

Kayden walked too the front stage and her sisters as they read the Lil poem they rehearsed at Cha's house.

Our Mommy always told us
The prettiest smiles hide the deepest secrets.
The prettiest eyes have cried the most tears.
And the kindest hearts have felt the most pain.

So how do you know who to trust
If we can hide a lie with a simple grin.
Or the glisten of our eyes.
How do we keep moving forward even when our hearts can't take anymore?

How do we let our eyes deceive us into pain.
How did we not know that person never loved us?
How could I erase the image?
