I went back to my hotel room the next morning after a long, crazy night with Chloe. If I had to choose one best friend, it would be Chloe. She was always reliable and trust worthy and we had so much fun together. Last night, we made a music video to Last Friday Night by Katy Perry and put it one YouTube.

Anyways, when I arrived at my hotel room, I found it empty. So I gathered all my competition stuff and walked out of the room wondering why they were acting so sketchy.

Later on it was thirty minutes until Mackenzie's solo and they still hadn't showed up.

Both mom and Kenzie missed our breakfast ritual and the morning warming up and getting ready for the competition.

Not just that, they missed my solo. And to make it worse, it was one of my favorites. Abby claims I was flawless, as well as everyone else.

Twenty minutes until junior solo number 347 (Mackenzie's solo) was supposed to go on, they walked in.

"MELISSA!" Abby barked at them as they rushed in, a bundle of coats and scarves. Mackenzie's cheeks were flushed and her eyes were swollen. I could tell she had been crying just moments before.

Mom went over to Abby and whispered a few words in Abby's ear, causing her to back off. A flash of terror came across her face, but quickly disappeared.

Mackenzie ran over to me and I quickly started her makeup.

"What's wrong?" I mumbled to her as I applied red lipstick.

"I can't tell you." She whispered through a new set of tears.

"Kenzie, it's me." I begged her. But it seemed for once, she wasn't gonna tell her secret.

I finished her makeup and helped her into her costume and sent her on her way.

Mackenzie ended up forgetting the last sixteen counts of her dance but pulled it off pretty well. We can only hope the judges didn't notice.

When everyone congregated back in our dressing room, Abby gave her a huge hug and held her there for several moments. She whispered something in her ear, but I couldn't make it out.

Mom pulled me over to the side later and told me they had to tell me something, but to keep it on the down low. I almost started crying right then and there. Something was up, and it was serious.
