You don't have a choice when it comes to being yourself. However, you do have a choice when it comes to accepting yourself. If you accept yourself, others might accept you to.
But what if you have the feeling that they won't? What if you already live in a world where you have to keep a part of yourself secret, because if you do otherwise, the world would just collapse? It would make sense to keep another part of yourself a secret as well, wouldn't it?
Keeping a secret this big wouldn't be healthy, but if you feel like you would lose so much more if everyone would find out about what you're actually hiding, your own health probably wouldn't be that important, would it?
A secret can keep a friendship together. The key to being friends is that you can share anything with each other, without feeling like you're weird, or different. Your friends aren't supposed to judge you, because they have chosen to stick with you trough whatever. But still... Are all friends loyal? Do they really mean it when they say they will always have your back? Or do they just say what they're supposed to say?
And if you do share a secret, are they willing to keep that secret? Or are they going to use it against you? Because some people are like that, you know. They pretend to be your friend and when you finally spill all your secrets, they might just use it against you.
Keeping a secret is hard, but sharing a secret amongst your closest friends and trusting them, might be even harder.
