•Chapter 21: Cracks
Sam's POV
Beep....Beep....Beep....
The same sound filling my ears, getting louder everytime as I wake up. I groan and try to move my hand to turn off my alarm, which is what I thought the sound was coming from. As I try to lift my arm I realise I can't.
What is happening?
I try to lift my other arm which wouldn't happen either.
Ok...don't panic. I just need to open my eyes. Easier said than done I found out. I can't move anything, what is going on?Think Sam think. What happened last?
*Flashback*
The door of my room slammed shut as Rick went downstairs to answer his phone. I leaned back on my bed and sighed. I can't believe I was that close to kissing him and he just walked off.
I sit up and take my hoodie off as my room suddenly started to get very warm which was odd as my room always cold. I walk back over to my painting to continue and get my mind of what was about to happen when the floor boards beneath me dipped, broke and fell. I stumbled back and looked down the hole to see Ricks room, which is below mine, on fire.Oh God.
I run down the stairs in my room to my door to find it jammed. This can't be happening. I start banging on the door trying to get someone's attention but the fire alarm starts to ring loudly at that point which drowns me out. What do i do? The window. I run back up the stairs to get to my window to get someone's attention when flames burst through the floor. I leap back as fast as I could but I fall and knock my head as I go. After that all I could remember was darkness.
*end of flashback*
I sit in darkness and silence remembering what happened. Please don't let me be dead....at least I don't think I am. I sniff and I don't smell burning but like cleaning stuff, like I'm somewhere very clean. I try to over my hands and I feel my fingers move.
Yes, not dead. My eyes start to let in light as I eventually become able to open them. I slowly open them to see me in a white room with a window all the way across the wall looking out into a coridor with lots of people outside but I couldn't make them out as my vision was still blurry. I try to sit up but my arms wouldn't let me. Just as my vision starts to clear the door opens and noise reaches my ears.
"SAM! She's awake" then lots of feet. I groan and close my eyes as the brightness and noise causes my head to ache."Good afternoon Miss Thyme" an unknown voice said. I open my eyes to see a man coming into focus at the foot of my bed. I groan in response. He laughed at this and said, "I kinda expected that response. How are you feeling?".
"My head hurts and I can't move my arms" I said finding my voice.
"Well, I can fix the abilty to move your arms now" he said before reaching over me and unclipping a few straps. After I realise what he did I used my little strength I had and got into a more comfortable position. I rubbed my eyes and asked, "why were they strapped down?".
"Oh. When you were brought here you had 1st and 2nd degree burns on your arms and we didn't want to you to roll over on to them as you were unconscious". I nodded my head but regretted it as the room began to spin.
"I'll be back in a moment with some pain killers to help with that" the doctor said before leaving the room and slamming the door."It would help if you didn't slam the door" I said quietly but everyone still heard. Laughs were heard and I looked round at the faces and said, "how long was I out".
"2 days" Tee said which me made me realise everyone was in their uniforms. I guess they came here after school judging by the clock on the wall.
"You're lucky Rick got you out when he did or else..." Tee trailed off looking around at everyone.
"Wait? What do you mean, Rick got me out?".
"He ran back in the house realising you were still upstairs and came back a few minutes later with you" Gina said. As she told me this I realised he wasn't in the room.
"Where is Rick?". Tyler was about to answer when the door opened and a voice said, "right here". I turned to see Rick walk in with the doctor behind him but Rick had his arm in a sling.
"What happened to you?" I asked in shock.
"Rick here has bruised his shoulder and it was popped out of his socket" the doctor said as he placed the painkillers beside me. My eyes widened at this and looked at Rick as he slowly got into another bed, which I only just realised was in this room, and Mike helped him to put the covers over him."Now Sam, we have checked for a concussion and cracks in the brain bit so far we haven't seen any. We will be keeping you here for a days under observation with Rick and by the end of the week you both can go home".
"Ok"
"Sure""Ok then. If your friends don't mind if we can take care of the patients as they both have woken up today" the doctor said, basically telling them to leave in the nicest way possible. I grinned as Mike started getting everyone to leave and we waved as they left.
I sighed and laid back down.
"I guess it's just the two of us now" Rick said from his bed.
"Yep" I answered. A few days alone with Rick, this won't be awkward at all.I kinda wish I did crack my head open now.
