I QUICKLY MAKE IT TO THE TENTS AND TRY TO GUESS WHICH ONE IS ZOË'S. I stand around for a bit, which tent could be hers?
"It's over there, Doctor." I jump at the sound of Troye's voice. I turn to see him, the moon illuminates half of his face. His expression is serious as he motions me to the tent across from ours.
"What?"
"I know who you're looking for. She's in that tent." He rolls his eyes as he turns away, not before I catch the smirk on his face. He enters our tent before I question him further.
I shrug off the weird encounter and enter Zoë's tent. She's humming lightly as she dances across the room with her pillow. Her smile is bright, what's got her so happy?
"Zoë?" I question, her head snaps to me as she drops her pillow. She walks up to me and grabs my hands.
"O-mighty, dance with me." She happily demands as she pulls me to her. She puts one hand on my shoulder and her other hand in mine. I quickly put my hand on her waist as she leads me around the room.
"Zoë, what's gotten you so happy?" I ask, I can't help but smile with her. I quickly spin her as I laugh.
She lets go of me and smiles. "Oh it was so wonderful o-mighty. I just..." She trails as she sighs in happiness.
"What happened?" I question her.
"I met a guy. He was so charming and cute. He asked me on a date for tomorrow and-"
"A date?" I cut her off. "Are you going to ask Elizabeth?"
"Well...I need you to help me with that bit." She asks with a pout.
"How so?" I take a seat in the floor. She follows quickly and lays her head on my shoulder. Her positivity is rubbing off on me and I feel as if she's a close friend.
"Well listen up, ok?" She says with a smirk.
--
I jog lightly, and I'm sure I'm far away from the camp by now as Zoë wanted. She's probably informed Elizabeth that I "ran away." I take a seat on a bench, it's a bit secluded front he town but a park is right across from me. I see a few families enjoying their day and some kids testing their powers. For once, I see people walking around, children laughing, it seems peaceful.
Zoë told me to wear my hood up to keep me from being recognized. She's probably on her way to pick me up. Then she'll bring me back to the camp and pretend she left something here. She'll get to go on her date and I'll probably be locked away in handcuffs.
Why am I doing this for her? To be honest, I have no clue. Maybe it's the fact that I consider her my friend. Do people do this for their friends?
"Hey Doctor." Troye greets as he sits down next to me on the bench. I jump from surprise as I see him. What is he doing here? Did they send him instead of Zoë?
"What are you doing here?" I ask him, I look around for Zoë but she's nowhere.
"You think I didn't hear your little plan." He chuckles a bit.
My shoulders sag in defeat. "I'm sorry." I apologize, my eyes skim the park and I spot a family similar to my own. A mother, father, and two sons who are equally showered in love.
Troye's gaze follows mine and he seems to notice my sadness. "Listen, I don't know much about you but whatever is bothering you, I think you should leave it be."
"You won't get it." I dismiss him.
"Then tell me what's bothering you. I'll try to help you." He asks as he looks at my frame.
"You won't get it." I repeat.
Even if Troye had been treated less than by his family like Zoë, none of them would ever understand. They have powers, they're unique, different, powerful. Everything that I want to be, and I can't help but let that get to me. My parents are right, I'm weak. That's why I feel so dead inside when I see that family shower both of their sons in love. I don't think my parents would ever do that.
"Listen, this is really dangerous. If I hadn't overheard you guys, you could have been in a lot of trouble." Troye breaks me from my thoughts, he scans the perimeter quickly before grabbing my arm and making me stand.
I scoff and shake his hand off. "I can take being locked up and yelled at by Elizabeth."
"I didn't mean Elizabeth. Now, before anyone can recognize you, let's head back." He lightly tugs my arm.
"I can't. What about Zoë?" I ask. He rolls his eyes at my question.
"Do you know what could happen if there is a GB here? They can sense your gene, now let's get out of here." Troye demands in an angry tone. I don't know what a GB is and frankly I don't really care.
"I'm not leaving withou-" I begin to protest but Troye cuts me off.
"I knew you'd be difficult." He states, before I could question him, he reaches in his back pocket and presses a rag to my face.
--
"You could have gotten him killed over a stupid boy." I hear Troye yell. I slowly open my eyes, and blink slowly.
"He was hiding his face. I told him to do that." Zoë yells back, I slowly sit up and look around. I'm a little further away from both of them, we aren't in the camp though.
"They could sense him. The shield doesn't work if he leaves the camp." Troye angrily spits back at her. "I know you're looking for love, but don't endanger him for it. He can't defend himself yet." Troye explains in a softer tone.
"W-Where are we?" I cut into the conversation. They both snap their heads towards me the minute I speak. Troye looks at me with a bit of disbelief.
"How are you awake so early? You were suppose for be knocked out for the rest of the day." He questions me. I felt myself get lightheaded as Troye's eyes widen in some type of realization.
"We need to leave the forest right now." Troye demands to Zoë, I don't get to hear the rest of the conversation I just briefly hear another pair of fast paced footsteps coming our way.
