Teardrops and Butterflies
(Sequel to The girl in the attic)
Chapter 11
Preston’s POV
Talking to Lina didn’t go exactly as planned but eventually she agreed and signed the papers. We had brought it with for her to sign beforehand because we really didn’t want her at the wedding. My aunt and uncle were invited however but since my parents were going to be there I knew they would behave.
After Lina signed the papers we caught up with my aunt and uncle for a few minutes and then left. I’m really not their biggest fan and to be quite honest, I had much better things to be doing then hanging out and talking to them.
Once we were back in the car and on our way home I could see Katie relaxing.
“It’ wasn’t that bad,” I said, trying to cheer her up some more.
“I’m just glad it’s over with, now I don’t ever have to see her again,” Katie replied, sounding relieved by the idea.
“Yeah, now you’re stuck with me for the rest of your life,” I stated and then watched as her lips turned up into a huge smile.
“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be,” she whispered and then leaned over, giving me a soft kiss on my cheek.
We stopped at the diner in town to grab some pancakes for lunch and then went home and spent the rest of the day watching movies and cuddling.
The week leading up to the wedding passed by quick and before we knew it was Saturday morning. My parents had flown in two days ago and were living at a little motel in town so that they could be close by to help with the final preparations.
“When is this going to stop?” Katie complained as she walked back into our bedroom. I looked up at her pretty face and felt my heart sink a bit. The morning sickness was getting really bad and she looked a bit flushed.
“Are you ok?” I asked, jumping off from the bed and running over to her.
“Yeah, just nauseous and light headed but it’ll pass soon,” she answered, smiling at me.
“Are you sure you want to go through with the wedding? We can postpone it if you’re not feeling up to it,” I asked, not wanting to postpone our wedding at all but Katie and her health came first.
“No way! Don’t tell me your getting cold feet,” Katie giggled, letting me know there was no way we were postponing our wedding. She was just as excited about it as I am.
At that moment we heard knocking at the front door and I automatically knew it was my mom coming to fetch Katie. She was going to take her to a saloon to get her hair and makeup done while my dad was staying with me while I got ready.
I kissed Katie goodbye and then watched her leave with my mom, causing my stomach to turn with nerves. It’s not that I didn’t trust my mom but whenever I’m not with Katie I get all nervous. I don’t like not being with her and being able to see that she is ok with my own two eyes. I know it might sound a bit overprotective but I just can’t help myself. I don’t think I would be able to survive if anything was ever to happen to her.
I got dressed, did my hair and made sure I had her ring before me and my dad left for the church. A few cars were already parked outside, including my mom’s, making me feel instantly better. It was only a few minutes before the wedding would start so I waited in one of the back rooms for a while and then took my place at the front of the church.
All the benches weren’t full but the most important people were there and that is all that mattered. Katie wanted a small intimate wedding and I am happy to give her whatever she wants.
As the music started playing I felt my insides flutter with happiness, knowing that the most beautiful girl in the world was about to become my wife. It took a few seconds before Katie made her appearance but when she did I was dumbstruck, she looked like and angel sent straight from heaven and for the millionth time I couldn’t believe how lucky I am to have her.
The people started whispering in awe as they all watched her walk down the aisle and then without warning something horrible happened. Katie was almost at my side when she stopped and fell over, landing on her side, causing my heart to leap out of my chest with fear.
