OK so, I'd been around the world a few times. Scotland, Canada, Turkey, Kenya, Brazil, Australia, Romania, Iraq, Mexico and numerous other place. I'd seen all seven of the world wonders before I met the Cullen family.
What does this have to do with the dinner with Alice, well not much. It has to do with what happened after the slightly awkward, but tasty, family dinner.
Carlisle was an incrediblely kind man, just by looking at him you got a sense of goodness. His wife, Esme, had the same quality. Both just smiled and you immediately felt at home.
I tried to relax around them, and I did for the most part, but memories if my captors were always running through my head. The way the Cullens moved, their skin and invisibility to my vampiric radar was too similar.
The dinner was fabulous, if a little odd with me being the only one eating. One of Carlisle's "sons" had made it with help from his daughter. The daughter was the one I would guarding.
She didn't come into the picture until after dinner, and by then I'd pretty much been won over. Esme did most of the explaining. Granddaughter wanted by a enemy Coven, her blood more potent to a Strigio then Mori blood, blah blah blah. The girl was a magnet for trouble. I liked this job more and more. Carlisle seemed taken aback and asked if even wanted to know my pay. $5,000 a day, all holidays off (though Esme said I was welcome to spend the holidays with their family if I wanted), free room and board, all meals paid and a honorary membership to the Olympic Coven.
That last one made me uneasy. I explained I found it hard to sleep in the same building as an Elder do to past experience with some of their kind, though I didn't offer further detail.
Esme even promised a private house for me at each of their estates.
I was astonished that they would be willing to do all this for a Guardian. In the Mori world Guardians took the family they were assigned and had to suck it up if they didn't like something. Here were to apparently fabulously wealthy Elders, practically begging me to sign on. It made sense when I met Ness.
Renesme Carly Cullen, aka the most beautiful girl ever. Her physical beauty only part of the picture, when she met me in a side room after dinner she apologized for any inconvenience, saying she didn't need a Guardian. She had "Jake", one look at her father's face in the corner and I knew that "Jake" was part of the reason I was getting hired.
The werewolf boyfriend who once crushed heavily on the mother, but really liked that little egg cell inside her the whole time. Wow, just wow.
Obviously the father, Edward, wasn't happy with that. He wanted me on full time, as a chaperone first and foremost. His wife and mother of his child, Bella, informed me I had no obligation to chaperone her daughter. My job was keeping her alive, not celibate.
I agreed to every term. They were loose, not long term things and easy to comply with. It would be nice to do my duty again. After I agreed I noticed the time. My plane would be touching down in London in an hour, I needed to call Kieren. I left him a message say I was sorry, but I had a good job here and I thought he should reach out to Hunter.
He and his cousin had been close in childhood but had since grown separate, especially during his eight month vanishing act.
By the time he called me back to me, I'd already gotten another flight booked and confirmed my place in the Cullen family. Jasper and I already  set up workout times, he apparently had a military past and wanted to see what I was made of, Emmet had dubbed me and his(...girlfriend?) Rosalie "the thorns", Alice was shopping for my new wardrobe online and Bella and Edward were explaining Nessie's life style in depth.
Only four hours after I'd taken down Siobhan I was on another flight, this one bound for an unknown destination. I don't suggest any of you readers getting on an international flight with people you just met, but I was running out of options and my wide array of talents included a lie detector. Carlisle didn't know about my talents, and if I had my way no one ever would.
After two hours of flying and pestering Rosalie finnaly broke. "You know what? Fine! We're headed to our Washington Estate, east coast, not west. Now SHUT UP!"
