I slowly wake up, the light in the room hurts my unadjusted eyes my vision is blurred but is returning to normal. My body feels like it has been hit by a truck. I can hear someone trying to talk to me but I can't make out what they're saying, for some reason my senses are shocked and are returning to me slowly. Finally after about five minutes I can start to make out what the person is trying to say, I believe the person I am hearing is Kai and he keeps repeating "Eston can you hear me." And "Eaton are you alright." And then out of no where all my senses come back and I spring up into a sitting position.
"Whoa whoa whoa there, take it easy. You're in pretty bad shape." Kai is talking in a very concerned voice and it calms me down a bit.
"What happened?" I ask and it's only then that I realize how hard I'm breathing, apparently I'm having an anxiety attack with out even knowing what I'm anxious about.
"It's okay nothing major happened you just passed out from what I believe was over exertion. You've been asleep for a while it's about 12:30 midnight." Kai explains this to me in almost to calm of voice.
"What about Lennox, that thing that came up behind her?" I ask because the last thing I remember was the sharp tentacle like things that came out from her shadow.
"She's fine thanks to the shield provided by the VS simulator, but if it hadn't been for that shield she would probably be dead. Four tentacles came up from her shadow and attempted to pierce her stomach kidney throat and heart." My heart sunk with the words he has just spoken. "But in lighter news you won the duel, do to the fact that your last hit was a critical attack it sent her HP from 60 to 0 in the blink of an eye."
A wave of confusion floods my mind. How is it that her shadow attacked her when that's not what I was trying to do at all? Why did Alec's powers make me black out? And what was that loud screeching that I heard before I passed out?
"Can I get up?" I ask Kai.
"I don't see why not, you only fainted it's not like you were shot or anything. But if you plan on going out there you might want to prepare yourself because everyone is pretty upset with you."
"Why!?" I ask nervously, like I needed another reason for them to resent me.
"Well they think that you used a critical strike to win, they feel like you went to far to prove your dominance."
"But that isn't what I meant to do at all, I was just going to use her shadow to grab her from behind but as soon as I started using Alec's powers I started to hear a loud screeching and then I passed out when those things came out of her shadow." My voice is shaking and I have this nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach like a kid who knows that they are about to get in trouble for something that they did.
"Well you can try to explain that to them, but I'm pretty sure that Lennox won't be so easily persuaded. She's locked herself in her new room and hasn't come out for anything or anyone." A look of concern comes over Kai's face.
I get out of bed and I realize that I'm in one of the bedrooms, likely the one that I won. I walk out the door and see that everyone except Lennox is sitting in the living room. Nyle is the first person to see me.
"Well! If it isn't our crazed psychopathic leader." Nyle says loud and obnoxiously.
"What in the world were you thinking, you could have really hurt her." Clarity starts to yell at me.
"No he could have killed her." Alec's voice is more serious then I have ever heard it before. "If we would have had the duel outside or in a gym Lennox would be dead right now and her blood would be on your hands." If Alec is trying to scare me or make me feel guilty it's working. "What were you thinking?" His voice shakes and I can sense the fear in his voice.
Every one begins to yell at me at the same time except for Kai who seems to be defending me but no one pays attention to what he is saying. I'm overwhelmed with all these voice's.
"I didn't mean to." I finally choke out but I say it to lowly.
"What did you say?" Clarity asks confused and everyone's rage dies down finally giving me a chance to explain what happened.
"I didn't mean to hurt her. I tried to use Alec's powers to make her shadow grab her from behind so that I could attack her from the front, but as soon as I tried to control the shadow I started to hear a loud screeching noise and then I blacked out. Guys the last thing I remember seeing was those things burst from her shadow and then nothing." I can't do anything better then that. Now its up to them to believe me.
"We know you blacked out but you can't blame it on Alec's powers. You fainted due to over exertion and those things appeared before you fainted." Clarity is obviously trying to discredit me.
"Clarity believe me I don't know anymore about what happened then you guys do." It's the truth but I can tell that no one believes me.
"Okay well then why doesn't Alec faint every time he uses his power?" Clarity has already decided not to believe me no matter what.
"I don't know maybe there is some technique that Alec uses that I didn't know about or something about him that makes him immune." Trying to prove my innocents with out knowing all the facts is like trying to fry something with out grease it's getting messy it's getting stuck and eventually it's going to burn.
"Then let him tell us." We hear the voice from the back of the room, Lennox steps out of her room.
"What?" Clarity asks.
"If there is something about Alec that protects him from the harmful effects of his abilities then let him explain. If he can then Eston is innocent but if he can't then Eston is guilty." And all of a sudden a terrified look comes onto Alec's face.
