The darkness embraced me as I lay on the cold ground. I could feel shadowy entities creeping around me. Hear them. Sense them. Spiders crawling up and around the tunnels, weaving their webs hoping to catch their next victim. Zombies lurking through their stony tomb in search of an unsuspecting person within their reach. Skeletons standing with their bows drawn and empty eyes searching for any life to strike down.
My body shuddered in fear. Quiet whimpers escaped my lips as the paranoia intensified.
What if I can't protect myself? What if they find me? What if I die?
What if?
What if? What if what?
I sat up and brought my knees to my chest, resting my chin on them. My brow furrowed.
I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself. I reassured myself. But, even though I tried to push the feeling of being exposed out of my head, I couldn't help but feel scared.
My head fell back and rested against the wall. The grip on my knees loosened and my muscles relaxed.
Well, sitting here isn't going to help. I thought. I need to find a way out.
I reluctantly stood up, my hand pressing into the wall for balance. The faint light from a lava pool in a nearby ravine dimly lit the damp cave walls with an orange hue. However, it was still very dark and hard to see.
My shoe created a low click as I stepped forward. The sound reverberated off of the cavern walls. The distant squeak of bats caused my ears to prick and my body to freeze. My chest tightened when I suddenly felt unprotected. My mouth was dry and my hands became clammy.
"Don't worry. Tyrinn said I was protected." I quietly reassured myself.
I took a deep breath through my nose and let it out in a long exhale through my teeth as I reached my arm back to grab the Obsidian Ender Blade. My right arm stretched backwards and I grasped the handle of the blade. The sword created a "shing" as it pulled out of its scabbard. It wasn't until I had held it in front of me that I noticed that the eye gave off a faint green, pulsating glow. The black sliver of a pupil contrasted to the bright green of the rest of the glass eye.
My thumb brushed against the smooth surface. Immediately, I felt a slight tingling sensation in my hand. Instantly, I panicked.
What in the world?
I moved my hand up, gripping the other hand tightly around the handle so it wouldn't slip out, to touch the eye. I rested my palm over the glassy orb. My arm started to buzz. The feeling spread up and around my body, making its way to my head. A low drone rung through my ears. The Eye of Ender glowed a bright green which reflected off of the surrounding cave. The light pulsated upwards through the blade which glowed a vibrant purple. The whole cave lit up allowing me to see every stalactite and opening.
That's what he meant by summoning End Power? But, I didn't even focus it there...In fact, I didn't even focus it at all. I think...
When I lifted my hand off of the eye the buzzing became more of a light tingling sensation and the ringing ceased. However, I still felt a sort of power pulsate through me.
I walked forward towards a small entryway to the ravine. The ledge jutted outwards over the sheer drop below. Lava pooled out of the stone wall and into a giant lake that covered the majority of the trench floor. A steep, rocky slope to my left led to a higher tier of the jagged ledge. The higher floor seemed to make its way across most of the side of the ravine and it seemed safe enough.
