Purple Fire

Sweet, soft music filled the atmosphere. The pitter-patter of mouse feet was almost present behind the piano and violins. It was almost like the chords brought sunlight into the room. High pitched bells rang along with the strings as the symphony of mice started to quiet down. It slowed to a stop, finishing with a low chord from the piano.

The back and forth motion of the brass pendulum hanging from the wooden clock on the wall caught my attention. Its low clicking sound echoed through the room. The music started up again. Bells accompanied the piano with the clock backing it up as a metronome.

Dust floated in the shaft of sunlight filtering between the dark red curtains. The music beckoned the light of consciousness towards me. I stood up, arching my back in a stretch. A small grunt forced its way out in the in the process.

A rogue strand of my silver hair floated in front of my face. I drew a deep sigh and blew it away only to be greeted by it once more. I then proceeded to pull it, along with the rest of my hair, behind my right ear.

As I looked about the room in the only blackness, it occurred to me that I had slept in a stranger's home. The thought was almost alarming. I then shook my head. Fly wasn't a stranger. Well, not exactly. I knew who he was so that at least makes us acquaintances. I don't know about his past or anything personal about him so it's understandable why we would feel like strangers.

Why am I thinking about this?

I shook my head to clear my thoughts.

My vision was impaired due to the darkness surrounding me. I felt my way through the room, pushing off of the walls, over to a mirror that the light from outside was reflecting off of. My torso hit the dresser in front of it before my hand slipped across the smooth wooden top. I grunted as I reached over to the light switch to the right of it. It made a small clicking sound as I flipped it. The light from the bulbs was blinding. I squinted my eyes as they adjusted to the harsh white light.

My eyes widened slightly in surprise from my first time seeing my reflection. I furrowed my brow. Had this really been the first time I'd seen my reflection?

Silver locks fell over my shoulders in choppy waves. My bangs obscured most of the left side of my face. My fair, cool-toned skin glowed with youth. And my eyes were...purple? How is that even possible? Most eyes are either blue or brown. Even green or hazel, but purple?

I leaned into the dresser and peered into my eye. The black depths of my pupils enlarged as my body blocked the light.

As I peered closer, I noticed something move. Something was moving in my eye! My heart started to race. I pulled my bottom eyelid down to see the rest of my eye. I pulled myself away from the dresser and released my eyelid. Even from far away, you could see the faint movement of something within the amethyst orbs. It was like fire; tongues of fire licking upward within my iris.

I was also surprised to find that I had been wearing a large necklace this whole time. I guess it had been hiding beneath my hoodie. The chain was fairly thin, but it was strong enough to hold the decently large pendent. The green orb was held by an obsidian claw. The orb looked like an eye. The pupil was a small sliver of black surrounded by a purple hue that spread outwards into the rest of the eye, eventually fading to green.

I pushed the necklace back under my hoodie as I made my way to the door. I turned the brass handle to open it allowing pale light to flood the bedroom. The door to the bedroom down the hallway, which I can only assume was Fly's, was slightly open, letting both natural and artificial light into the hallway. Music flowed out of the room; the same music that had been playing before. I ran my hands down the dark wooden wall as I made my way to the room.
