It's has been approximately a week since the wispy figure approached the palace and nearly blew it to smithereens. The week has so far been quite a busy one. After I had snapped at Prince Ignatius, the King Pyro had come bursting into the room shouting orders, giving Ignatius no time to retaliate. It was surprising to see his arrogant nature, it was even more surprising to let my irritation seep out but I guess our faces were slipping after what had happened. I had been scolded by Princess Meredith, whom I had ignored because her words, I had decided, were of no value to me.
The only person whose words had any power to harm or affect me was Lady Eysllt.
Lady Eysllt was the most powerful living ancestor of the Olwen bloodline. Technically she was my great, great aunt making her two hundred and sixty five years old. She still looked the same as she was when she was in her young teens. She was an anomaly . If it had been any other person in their hundreds they would have aged slowly, donning the appearance of a twenty year old but not Lady Eysllt. She stopped aging completely since the death of her twin sister, Emerald.
Kill or be killed. A child of each bloodline must do it. These are the last words she had uttered to me. If that were so, shouldn't have they selected a more powerful person? What could I do? I was not hundreds or thousands of years as old as them. I was a novice- inexperienced.
Which is all the reason more why you should participate. My mother had said, solemnly. At her words I had sucked in my breath and nodded. My mother was a simple woman, who had never asked for much. This would be the least I could do for her. It would be almost like a game. A game that I had not intended to win.
"The flowers that grow at your kingdom sounds beautiful," Princess Phoebe says, smiling lightly. Her words drew me back to reality. Princess Holly grinned, her eyes glittering at Phoebe's words. They had been talking about their kingdoms for the past hour and Meredith had joined them, nodding and laughing appropriately. The only one that sat afar from the trio was me. After last weeks incident the Princesses were wary of me.
Not that it mattered to me. I liked being alone.
We were up on the third floor of the palace, hidden inside a secret garden that the Prince had offered to us to be used. It was quite beautiful, even without natural light the plants still prospered beautifully. We were situated in the middle of the garden on stone benches with rose vines twisting around their legs. The change in scenery, was refreshing for once.
I was situated on a bench, reading a letter from my older brother which read:
My dearest Anna,
I paused at the first line, a smile tugging at my lips as he wrote my nickname that he always called me whether angry, annoyed or joyful.
I'm in a hurry so I mustn't stay long.
How is life at Elan? Are you missing me as yet? I wonder how you've gotten by without me and my distractions. Don't work too hard, your body needs to adjust to the temperature. Alec has made bet on how long it will take you until you come back. He doesn't think you'll fare well but I just think that he misses you. Life is dreary here without you to pester but now I know how you feel since Edward and Marigold have fun taunting me. I honestly don't know how you've kept them on the days that I was gone.
Miranda is the only one who has still held her ground. Which is expected since I kept her on her toes since you were gone. I am a good distraction after all. She looks so beautiful when she's angry at me. It gives my great joy that she has agreed to become my wife. Do hurry up and come home soon so she can finally be mine.
I'll write when I can.
Your Brother,
Alexander.
A smile almost breaks out on my face, the first one since I've been here. It fades immediately as I notice the curled hand writing in gaelic. The only one who still used this lettering was Lady Eysllt. I instantly hold my breath as my eyes slowly take in her words
Princess,
Given the previous events, the consul is in a flurry of sorts. They are issuing more people to Elan. However I am curious of the power of Elan and if their power is worth protecting. You are to test the young Prince not only protect him and observe his movements and mannerisms. Test his power and report back to me. This is an order.Eysllt.
All thoughts of my siblings and parents vanish instantly at her words and I remember my place and position. Her words left me slightly shaken. Lady Eysllt had already sent individuals to examine the royals of Elan. She must be feeling uneasy if this was an order. Which made me feel uneasy because Lady Eysllt was never uneasy.
This meant I had to be a alert. I had a job to do. To fulfill another order.
I wasn't doing such a good job considering I didn't notice when Prince Ignatius snuck up behind me.
