Chapter Seven

It all took place so fast that I took a few seconds to register what was happening. The words: " What's that?" Filter numbly in my ears before I feel the sensation of the letter being ripped away from my hands. I whip my head towards the Prince who stood at the opposite end of the stone bench. In his hands were the letter and Lady Eysllt's words. Before panic registered in my being, I jumped to my feet and flickered my wrist in the direction of the Prince. My target - the letter.

A blue hue flung outwards from the palm of my hand before becoming a fledgling fire as it soared through the air and enveloped the letter. A yelp escaped his lips as he instinctively let the letter fall from his fingertips. We both watched as the novice flame devour the paper, condensing into a thin sheet of ice until cracks appeared on the letter. Seconds later, all that was left of the letter was a pile of unreadable fragments scattered in the grass.

Rage flickers in his amber eyes, flecks of orange becoming visible. "What was that for?" he hisses, his usually perfectly composed face shattering.

"Can't handle a little fire?" I taunt, all traces of irritation tucked deeper into my core as I narrowed my eyes in feign amusement at him. Who would've thought that the Prince of Elan couldn't handle a little fire...or perhaps, he couldn't handle anyone's fire but his own. My brows furrow  at the thought. If that was the case, it certainly was distressing. The King of the  Elan needed to master all the different types of flames and souls, it was the main reason they were the  King. There were only a few that could do such things.

"Shut up," He growls in a un-prince like manner. "What was in the letter?" He asked, his eye twitching slightly as he attempted to soothe his anger to no avail. The little flames in his eyes only seemed to grow with each effort.

"It does not concern you," I lie, my own irritation seeping back into my words.

"I'm sure it does. Tell me," he says firmly and once again I amused that he believes that he actually has some power over me.

"Is that an order?" I mock, my eye brows raising as a cruel smile tilt my lips upwards. Anger flickers on his face as the flames in his eyes grown hotter and hotter. It is only then I see the scales slowly appearing on his palm, where his skin was exposed. It was minuscule but I could still see them forming. There had been rumors that the Elan's descended from dragons but there had never been a record of such things or any evidence to go along with it. Until now that is.

"Bianca!" Meredith snaps, reminding me that the Prince and I were not alone. There was a warning in her voice as she looked firmly at me. She was standing now, her feet planted in a fighting stance and her arms tensed.  I frown, pressing my lips together tightly. I wasn't supposed to fight with her. We were supposed to work together...not against each other. It was was kind of hard working with someone who didn't understand your own twisted sense of humor.

I let of a heavy sigh as I looked back up at the Prince. I was supposed to test him...right? I wanted to see if he would morph into a dragon if I made him mad enough but it didn't seem like I would get to do that today. "Fine," I say as I push myself off the bench and walk pass the Prince, to the exit.

Maybe I would get to test him another day.

"Hey!" The Prince calls in a loud voice, I can hear the sound of his feet following after me.

Or not.

I turned around to look up at him, his eyes are still in flames but less so. "You still haven't told me what was in the letter," he huffs, narrowing his eyes down at me.

"I'm not obliged to," I say before briskly walking away, leaving both him and the girls in the garden.
