Chapter 6
Zaner let out a squeak, picking Chloe back up quickly as he looked at her with concerned eyes, worry showing as the girl continued to stare, unwavering.
Chloe just hung limp, though she could still be seen breathing easily, almost as if asleep, though she wasn't.
That didn't seem to ease him that much, though he knew she couldn't be seriously injured or anything.
"She needs blood." The girl said simply. "All newborns need to feed at least once a day." She said before walking out silently.
Chloe stayed unconscious, not moving in the slightest, as if her body had been shut down.
He only whimpered slightly, taking off again, trying to get out of the cave now as he broke into flight, the tunnels big enough to do so now.
She never seemed to wake, nor did it look like she was going to gain consciousness anytime soon.
He only moved faster, before suddenly stopping, knowing how vulnerable they'd be out of the cave, deciding to wait for her to wake up before he did anything.
Chloe stayed unconscious for what seemed to be forever, as if she'd never wake up again.
His worry was building, cradling her and rocking her and murmuring quietly, not knowing what to do as he was tense and ready to strike at anything now.
Eventually, after several hours, she slowly started to come to, only one word escaping her. "Zaner...."
He looked to her immediately, shifting her a bit to hold her closer. "I'm right here." He whispered softly.
"Aggghh, my head hurts." she whined, holding her head a bit as she relaxed into his arms.
He cradled her gently still, rubbing her head carefully as he held her closer. "You okay, love?" he whispered quietly, still concerned.
"Y-yeah... I'm fine." she said softly, ignoring the splitting pain that beat in her head. "I should have told you sooner."
He tilted his head. "Told me what?" he asked, though his voice still soft and gentle.
"When I was little, I used to pass out from time to time. I guess something must of triggered it because for a long time I had stopped." she explained, a bit of uneasiness in her voice. "There's not really an explanation for it. It just happens every now and again. Sometimes one right after the other. Just depends. I can't control it."
He nodded once in understanding. "Okay." He said simply, still rubbing her head slightly, not sure what to say at the moment, before looking out, them kind of close to the entrance of the cave now.
"Sheesh, it's like you two are in some sort of love story." Antonio said, still sitting there near the entrance and holding the cub. "You do know happy ending aren't real, right?"
Zaner only rolled his eyes. "Why don't you just shut the fuck up?" he asked with a sneer. "Before I get the entire cave on your ass." he said, not noticing the cub awake now, rocking its head back and forth idly.
"Zaner, ignore him." Chloe said softly, "He doesn't know any better and you can see that clearly."
He looked at her, before nodding once and relaxing with a huff, looking down for a moment, still holding her gently.
"Zaner," she whined, "When are we gonna go eat??"
He chuckled a bit, standing up. "Right now I guess." he said, before suddenly jumping down from the cliff, taking off with ease.
