Chapter 2
He continued to sing softly, the bats settling as well as they started to sprawl out on the floor again. He sang for a while, never really running out of breath, though he did have to breathe a bit. It wasn't too long till morning came, but the sky was dark with thick, heavy rainclouds
Chloe had yet to wake, now hugging the pillow tightly instead of laying on it like she should have been, her mouth open slightly as she stayed asleep, peaceful and relaxed.
He looked at her curiously, smiling again as he jumped down, tilting his head as he watched, not able to help but carefully move a tiny bit of hair that had fallen in her face.
She made a small sound, pressing her face to the bed before relaxing again quickly, everything about her so calm.
She looks so harmless. he thought as he crouched a bit, his eyes glowing rather intensely now as his smile never faded. Who the hell could even hurt someone like her? She couldn't hurt a fly. He made a noise as the bats started to crowd again, as if curious. "Back off!" he hissed, shooing them a bit, though his voice was quiet, trying not to wake her up.
Chloe didn't seem to notice, still deep asleep considering she'd been up late last night and it almost seemed as if she didn't get to sleep in much when she lived back at her own house.
He sighed as he stood, going over to the piano and turning a knob on it slowly, before sitting down as he started to play, though instead of sounding like a rumbling organ, it sounded almost like a music box, apparently having several things hooked up to it. Who knows what else it could play as? He tapped the keys softly and slowly, the bats laying on the ground by him like always as he almost seemed to be playing a lullaby, letting her sleep as much as she needed to, the song almost seeming to help her.
She smiled slightly in her sleep, hugging the pillow tighter as she seemed to almost curl around it slowly.
He looked over his shoulder and chuckled softly, though tilted his head as he wondered why she was clutching her pillow so tight, but he figured it'd be best to wait for her to wake up. He started to play a little quicker, humming along a bit as his foot tapped softly, his claws clicking on the wooden floor.
She made a small noise, yawning cutely before opening her eyes slightly, not seeming to notice the music at first. She sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes a little before looking over at Zaner, her eyes suddenly widening as she blushed a bit, obviously having forgotten where she was at first.
He didn't say anything as she was suddenly greeted by the bats as they all fluttered to her, sitting on the bed and looking at her curiously, seeming to tilt their heads and wiggle their noses a bit, seeming rather cute in an odd way as they squeaked and trilled and almost seemed to coo, their tiny ears twitching.
"Morning." Zaner said quietly as he continued playing, looking at the keys as he did so, now playing a complicated part.
She stiffened as she looked at the bats, not used to being surrounded by such creatures. At least not first thing in the morning. She turned her gaze to Zaner, tilting her head in her own curiosity. "Morning." she said softly before looking back at the bats.
The bats all at once opened their wings and squeaked, before dispersing. "Sleep well? You practically passed out before we even got back." he said with a chuckle, his wings still there as the bats gathered back around him, some sitting on the keys of the piano, though their tiny bodies didn't affect it as he soon stopped and looked at her.
She made a small noise as she stared at him for a moment, blushing even more. "Y-yeah, sorry about that." she squeaked, looking down slightly.
He rolled his eyes. "Don't worry about it. Humans have to sleep and im pretty sure anyone would be exhausted after finding out a fantasy was real and nearly getting attacked by the top three." he said quietly as he went back to playing again, though quieter now as he fell silent.
