I really hope you enjoy this story!!!
Lane's P.O.V
You have got to be kidding me. Standing maybe 10 feet in front off me stood Arc Vulcan.
Both of the men stood up and went towards him unafraid, "Back off kid we're not afraid of you.", the taller man said looking at the other guy. The other man slightly chubbier and scruffier, grabbed my arm . I yelped in pain as I felt a sharp object being lightly pressed against my kneck. Arc Vulcans head snapped towards me his eyes going between the knife and my eyes. His eyes were a piercing at me as if trying to tell me something. The other man reached for his arm trying to grab him causing Arc Vulcan to smirk. A electric string sent down his arm sending an electric wave to the mans hand causing him to yelp and pull away.
"Now, boys here's what's gonna happen your gonna let this pretty girl go and you and I are gonna have a nice chat ?", Arc Vulcan said sending me a smirk.
I felt the grip on the knife tighten and a small sting emit from where he was holding . I closed my eyes hoping if I closed my eyes I would be gone out of the situation I was in. I channeled all my energy to try and put a block between the mans knife and my kneck but, it felt like every force in my body wanted to fight it. I heard gruffs and groans of pain and a feeling of relief on my neck. I opened my eyes and the knife shot out of the mans hand. The man looked at me shocked before advancing towards me, his hand pulled back getting ready to hit me.
Right before his arm touched me a light flew past me electrocuting the man in front of me sending him flying to the ground. I turned to see Arc Vulcan staring at me and the other man passed out on the ground. So, I did what any normal person would do standing in front of a villain ,
I ran.
I ran for what felt like miles but, was problay only seconds. I got to familiar street signs and I saw my house in the distance. I ran faster and stopped right in front of it. My body was exhausted it felt like I needed to gasp for specs of energy. I fell down the the curb resting my head against the mail box and crossing my legs before shutting my eyes. My chest going up and down breathing until it finally came to a steady beat. I opened my eyes and felt the shiver of the cool night and a shadow of a person in the street light . I turned with my last gust of energy.
"Are you alright?", a deep voice rang filled with concern.
I finally got a good look at him under the street lights . He was in an all black suit that had specs of electric blue running through it. His muscle popped through and his breathing was rapid. I looked up to his face, that was covered by a black mask with the same blue going through even through the mask I could tell, he was attractive. He had a strong jaw and dark brown hair that was messy and sticking up. Even through the mask I could see small drips of blood.
Supers didn't bleed.
"Your bleeding." , I said my voice sounded so small. The side of his mouth ticked up in a smile, "Are you alright?", he repeated this time his concern was laced with amusement.
"I'm fine." I said with determination to come across strong but , continued to be measly and small.
He bent down before sitting on the side of the curb next to me, "What's your name?".
I looked up at him with a weird look. I hardly know him and what I do know is that he wasn't a super.
"I mean I like to learn the name of the girls life I save.", he said smirking .
"I've heard saving isn't really what you do."
He was silent. I looked up and saw the his smirk was now replaced with a scowl and his jaw was ticking but, he masked it putting on a neutral expression, "That's okay I can just call you something else.".
I looked at him with a bewildered expression ,
"Maybe something like babe, baby, pumpkin , sweetheart, honeybun-"
"Honeybun?", I stopped him midway he looked at me out of the corner of his eye, "Maybe , I'll call you munchkin, you are kind of short.", he sent me a smirk .
"I am not short." , I said sending him a glare.
"Oh I hit a nerve?" He said with a deep chuckle.
I didn't answer instead I looked at him there was something about him that was welcoming not anything like the villain I had heard him to be known as.
"Why?"
"What?" He replied.
"Why save me?", My voice held a determination I didn't know was still there. He looked away from me for a minute before standing up ,turning his back to me.
"Don't believe everything you see on TV."
And with that I was left with a gush of wind and my thoughts.
I always believed in heroes. I remember before my dad left we would sit around the TV and watch the late night specials on our newest hero. So, naturally when my powers developed I was excited . I, Lane Walker was chosen to save lives . At the time , my naive self thought my dad who was so fascinated in heroes would want to be by my side maybe like the Alfred to my Batman. I was wrong, almost immediately after my powers cans in full force my dad left . Not a goodbye or a note , I remember waking up to a sobbing mother and an empty house . Things were never the same and I blamed my powers everyday forward.
"Lane! Breakfast is ready!", my mothers voice shouted from downstairs. I lazily rubbed my eyes and let my hands travel to my neck the small mark from that night was now nonexistent. I got out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom and splattered water across my face. My thoughts drifting back to the Super I had met .
"He's a villian not a super "
I shook my head before heading downstairs. The smell of whatever my mom was cooking greeted my nose. Almost on command making my stomach growl, I walked into the kitchen to see my mom in her scrubs pouring her coffee. "I will probably be home late tonight so make sure you .." .
Her voice slowly lost its volume , my mind instead focused on the TV behind her.
A familiar speck of black and blue caught my eye and I walked passed my mother and grabbed the remote and turned up the volume.
"Local Forces were contacted this morning when an employee pulled into work to be greeted with a fire starting , while inspecting this fire forces at first had reported the cause of being an electrical shortage but, were shocked when looking back at the surveillance footage take a look."
The screen now switched from the news anchor to a video . The first thing to be seen was an empty office , the camera then glitched and then a familiar figure showed up. At first you couldn't tell who it was the image of his back showed up so quick before a glitch happened again. And finally the one part of the video you knew was him.
A single shot of him turning around a smirking at the camera before it glitched out one final time.
I can't explain what was going through my head but, I can say this I didn't know what to believe.
"I can't believe what's happening to the city now a days it used to be so peaceful.", my mothers voice rang out but, I couldn't focus all my mind could concentrate on was the last thing Arc Vulcan had said to me.
"Don't believe everything you see on TV."
