Author's note:

Sorry it has taken so long, between being sick, kids being sick, Christmas and wedding planning I have not had much time to write. I apologise if this isn't great. I haven't edited it.

The picture above is the field layout for their game.

The long straight ones are snake side - you have to get low and crawl to hide behind them.

The pointy ones that look like a dorito chip are called dorito.

Middle back - back centre.

That's mostly what you need to know to think of their positions. In an actual game the centre ones would all have their own name but so it doesn't get confusing I won't be naming them.

The wall behind back centre is where they keep the buzzers, they are called Home and Away.

............................................................................................................

The buzzer sounds and everyone ran to their positions. North had his gun up shooting straight away and hit Victor on his foot as he was running to his position across the field. Victor put his hands up and walked off the field with his head down. Paintball wasn't his favourite pastime but he had been hoping to stay in the game longer. He stood back and tried to get a good view of the whole game.

Sang had made it into snake perfectly and felt quite safe with Mr. Blackbourne in the bunker behind her. She peeked around and could almost make out Sean behind another bunker. She didn't want to give away her position, so instead of shooting she crawled silently behind the bunker to get in a better position. She looked up in time to see him poke his head and gun out to shoot Mr. Blackbourne. Sang raised her gun and started firing at Sean. The first shot missed, however, the second hit his gun, the third bounced off his shoulder and the fourth broke against his mask covering his face in paint. She giggled and ducked behind her bunker again to listen for North's instructions. She needed to know how many were left on each team.

Luke had made it to the centre of the field and was working out a plan of attack when he heard North shout out. There were 3 left on the other team and 4 on theirs. He turned to see who was out on his own team and saw Mr. Blackbourne walking off the field to where Victor stood. Sean joined them and Luke turned back to the game. If Mr. B was out that meant no one was covering Sang. He needed to end this point now so his cupcake wasn't hurt. He could tell someone was shooting towards where Sang was so he took a breath and ran from his position. He took off up the field and started shooting when he saw a person behind a bunker. He couldn't tell who it was as he shot them in the back and kept running to find Kota staring him down. Kota shot him in the chest before Luke had even turned his gun. He left the field to find Nathan walking off as well. He patted his shoulder and Nathan nodded at him to let him know there were no hard feelings about shooting him in the back.

Gabe was stuck. If he moved up the field Silas or Kota would shoot him straight away. North was trying to pick off Silas but it wasn't working. From his side of the field he had no idea what Sang was doing. He hoped she wasn't getting into trouble but there was a reason he had called her that and he knew it was inevitable. He spotted a pink blur running and swore to himself. She was going to get shot by Kota. There was no playing safe now. He started running while shooting towards where Silas was then turned to Kota who was busy aiming at Sang. Kota hadn't shot but he had her in his sights. His hesitation cost him, as Gabe shot him on his pack. Sang reached the buzzer and looked up to check her team. If she pressed it when one of them had been hit they would get a penalty. Gabe checked himself and heard North's voice boom across the field that he was fine. "Do it Trouble" he called out.

Sang pressed the buzzer and ran and jumped into Gabe's arms. "We did it Meanie! We won!"

Gabriel ran his hand down her hair, he had braided it to keep it out of the way while they were playing. "We still have two more points Trouble. Damn, you almost gave me a heart attack! That was some crazy shit. If Kota hadn't hesitated you would have been shot."

Sang's eyes widened and she pushed herself out of Gabriel's arms turning to look at the other boys. She spotted her target and marched over to him. Kota smiled as he saw her coming but his smile faltered as he registered the look on her face. She was not happy about something.

"Dakota Jameson Lee!"

"Ten! What's wrong? What happened?" he asked as she reached him. The other boys moved away to let them work it out. Gabe reached the group and explained why Sang was upset.

"What's wrong?! You, Dakota Jameson Lee! You are what is wrong! Meanie said you hesitated when you could have shot me." Her face fell as the anger left and now it was just disappointment and sadness that Kota could see.

"I'm so sorry Sweetie. I just couldn't do it. I saw you coming and you looked amazing, fearless. I couldn't think and then Gabe shot me before I could clear my head. I wasn't holding back on purpose. I just can't think straight with you, Ten. Every time I see you I just feel so lucky that you chose to stay with me, with us and when you look so amazing, I just, I'm sorry." He reached out and grabbed her hand as he spoke, running his fingers over each one and doing a silent count that they were all there.

Sang sighed, "I forgive you, Kota, but please don't hold back next time. I want to win because my team was good enough to win, not because you held back and let me win."

Kota pulled her into his arms. "I promise I will try harder next round. Honestly, I wasn't trying to let you win." He kissed the top of her head and they walked back to the others.

As they arrived Sean looked up, "You wounded me Pookie, I need a nurse to make me better."

Sang giggled, "I thought all was fair in love and war, Dr Sean?"

"I guess I did say that. Could I at least get a kiss better?"

"I believe we need to get back to start the next round, Dr Green. You played well, Miss Sorenson." Mr Blackbourne touched the small of Sang's back as they walked back to their Home base.
