Chapter 21 Home

Avengers POV

Loki was pacing back and forth because he just got news from Hermes that Clair has began attacking Marcia. He can't predict the chances of her surviving the fight. Everyone was suiting up and preparing for battle. The entire team has planned to jump into the portal and try to save Marcia and the other world, even if it meant leaving their world. They had no guarantee that they might come back home.

"Marcia means the world to me." Tony says to Pepper as they all say good bye to their loved ones. "I couldn't bear to see her dead. She is our daughter. Well technically not ours, but we raised her like she was our own." Pepper cries as she kisses him for the probably the last time.

Steve suits up and puts his helmet on. He walks towards to his nightstand to get his shield. A small photo of his old lover, Sharon Carter, better known as Agent Carter, was standing there. He slowly takes it. Her smiling face reminded her much of Marcia when she played pranks around the Avenger tower. He missed those times, the joy that filled the tower. He forgot how to smile. He had Carter's last words ringing in his mind, "Never forget to smile" .

"How can I smile if I lost the reason to smile?"He mutters, holding the picture in his hand. He thought of Marcia more as his niece. He loved that playful, little girl. She was the glue that kept the Avengers together. He puts down the picture and instead picks up Carter's locket that she gave to him before she died and slipped it into his pocket. He grabs his shield and walks out of the room.

After everyone had said their goodbyes, they began to set the plan. "Remember, we are in a different world, which means there are different rules." Tony says, nervousness settling in his stomach. Bruce was looking at him, patting his back. Thor nods in approval. "Clair's sneaky, smart and cunning. She knows our moves eights steps ahead of us, so we need to change it up." They all nod,and look at the portal and then at each other. Pepper walks towards the control. She fires up the engines, and looks at the monitor to see if everything is going well. When all was set, she looks out the window and nods, signaling that everything is going as planned.

Tony nods back and looks at the gang," There's no turning back now guys." They get into position and Pepper was about to press the button to start the machine when all of a sudden, a sound of screaming and yelling from outside erupted through the the alarm.

"What the hell?!" Tony yells. Steve looks back at him,"Watch your language!" Tony smacks the back of Cap's head, "Not the time," and runs outside to the balcony.

A fire had erupted at Bryan Park. Flames had charred off the beautiful playground as people scream and run for their lives. Tony flies off the help them. The others follow and catch up to the scene. The street was filled debris and destruction People were screaming their head off.

"Jarvis, give me the stats. What's happened?" Tony asks.

"Well, sir. It appears to be that some sort of wormhole has been created and strange unidentifiable creatures has emerged from it, sir." Jarvis said.

He turned towards the sound of people fighting. He could not believe his eyes. It was a miracle he needed for the past eight years." Jarvis, call all Avengers. We don't need the Alter anymore. We found what we initially went for."

Marcia POV

I unclasp the necklace around my neck and open the locket. I had attached a small button that when pressed forms a portal. I look around to find Grayson on the broken pavement, trying to get up. I kneel on the floor and take his hand. He looks at my crying face, confused, then sees the locket, and realized what's happening.
