The next day started out ordinarily enough, key word 'started out'. Dipper and Mabel were walking around town along with Wendy and Soos, partly for protection but more because they wanted to.
Wendy got into a few fights (though none of them were deadly) which she won and Mabel said hello to everyone, besides anyone who seemed to be one of Gideon' s men, even the society of the blind eye people.
"Hey Mabel, check this out." Dipper said looking in a store window at a strange styled hat with a pine tree on it.
"Let's go see how much it is!" Mabel said dragging Dipper into the store.
The store was full of lots of different hats which Mabel and Soos became distracted by trying on hat after hat.
"Excuse me sir, how much is the hat in the window there?" Dipper asked.
(I'm sorry for the next part, I don't know money from the 1920's so I'm just going to do it in now prices)
"Well if your taking about that pine tree one then your looking at a price tag of $50.00." The sales man said.
Dipper made a choking sound and stammered "fifty dollars?!".
"That's the price, take it or leave it. And such a cheap price for a hat of this style a quality, why over in England your can't get a hat like this for under $100.00" The sales man said.
"Let's just get out of here Dipper." Wendy said staring daggers at the man.
Suddenly the man's eyes widened with surprise.
"D-Dipper? Dipper Pines?" The sales man stammered.
"Hey wait a minute, I know you. You're Bud Gleeful!" Wendy said accusingly. "Come on guys, we're leaving."
"Well hold on just a minute now..." Bud started. He quickly closed his mouth however when a bullet broke through the wall right next to his head, shot by Wendy.
"I said." Wendy started. "We're leaving."
Everyone shuffled out quickly getting as far as away as possible. But someone else had been there outside the store watching them.
The bell rang to the hat store as a girl seemingly wearing an elegant yet simple blood red dress entered the store. She looked around for a minute though she already knew what she was getting. She finally grabbed a small red hat like the one's people would wear to the track and asked to the register.
"I would also like to purchase that hat in the window over there for my brother." Cynthia said standing in front of Bud.
"Of course miss, that will be $130.00 for both." Bud said.
Cynthia pulled money out of her purse though the money was fake and would disappear within the next day.
"And would you like a box for the hats?" Bud asked trying to hide his shock that this older than she looked girl took out such a large sum as if it was pocket change.
"Just for the pine tree one. I'll wear the other one out thank you very much." Cynthia said.
As she left the store, she smiled. She was sure that oaf had spilled about her to Gideon already and she had fun imagining his face knowing that she had been in his father's store and simply walked away.
"Now to find Dipper, they couldn't have gone that far." Cynthia thought.
Cynthia found them quite quickly;only the next block up; walking idly through town.
"Hey Dipper!" She called running up to them. "Here. I thought you might like this."
Dipper's look changed from confusion to surprise and happiness when he opened the box.
