Sonnet
Paddling out beyond the first sand bar
I am struggling to stay in control
Looking over my shoulder it seems far
The ocean waves are beginning to roll
My surfboard feels cold against my wet skin
I start to wonder why I love this sport
Tense, tense, tense I relax and rest my chin
I'm hopeful my wait for the wave is short
I make my turn and I face the sea shore
I'm really hopeful and nothing comes yet
A large breaking wave allows me to soar
A small breaching wave just gets me all wet
Surfing to you might seem a bit sappy
But surfing to me makes me feel happy
