"I can't wait for school this year!" Emma told her friends. "Next year is middle school!"

Emma, Chloe and Brittney squealed and bounced. Everyone know that once you were a 8th year your life is so much easier. With teacher being nicer and giving less homework.

"I still can't believe it," Chloe said. "And," Chloe turned to look at Emma. "You're only 11. How'd you manage to get a grade ahead?"

Emma laughed. "Come on Chlo. You ask that every year!"!

Chloe faked a look of shock. "I do?" she asked sarcastically. Emma and Brittney gave into a fit of giggles and continued to bounce on the bed.

"Emma?" Emma's mum called from down the hall. Chloe and Brittney gave Emma a 'haha you're in trouble' look as Emma nervously got up from the bed and left the room. She went into the dinning room where her mum was seated at the table.

"Yeah mum?" Emma folded and unfolded her hands nervously. She racked her brain trying to think what she might have done. She came up with nothing.

Her mum held up a letter addressed to her. It looked old and handwritten with its big, looping, cursive letters.

"Hun, do you know a McGonagall?" Her step mum looked concerned.

"No," Emma replied.

Mum furrowed her brow. "Have you been practicing magic?"

Emma copied her mum in furrowing her brow. "No..." Where was she going with this? Emma wondered.

Mum relaxed. "Okay Emma. You're free to go up to your room again."

"Okay..." Emma left and went back into her room.

"What was that about?" Brittney asked as Emma sat down.

Emma sighed. "I actually have no clue. I got some letter from someone I don't even know and Mum flipped out over it." Emma started giggling.

"What's so funny?"Chloe asked, starting to giggle.

"Just her face. She was so worried about it and... her face. She was making such a weird face!" Emma said in between giggles. Composing herself for a minute, Emma tried to make the face. Chloe and Brittney laughed at her efforts.

Once they got sent outside for laughing too loud, they calmed down.

Emma looked inside the front door at her mum and an idea came to her. Looking back at her friends she asked, "You guys want to play magic with me?"

Her friends looked confused for a moment then shrugged.

"Sure. Why not," Brittney said.

"What would we do?"asked Chloe.

"Do either of you remember the book we had to read at the end of last year?"

"No," Brittney and Chloe replied in unison. They looked at each other and giggled. Emma giggled before quickly composing herself.

"Well, I was thinking that we could try and... never mind it's a stupid idea."

"We wanna know. Come on tell us."

"Well... okay. I was thinking that we could..." Emma shook her head not wanting to say. Brittney and Chloe leaned in, and Emma sighed. "I was thinking we could pretend to move things with our minds."

"Cool!" Chloe excitedly said.

"I'll try first!" Brittney glanced around the small square of land that was Emma's yard, until her gaze landed on a small dandelion. "I'm going to make the seeds fly off of that dandelion," she declared.
