It was exactly 12 AM, and Harry, as usual, was wide awake. Making his way to the Gryffindor Common Room, he heard a noise-- a very familiar cry.

Considering that it was this late, he had not expected anyone to be here. He was used to being the only one in the room.

Eventually, after an awkward few seconds listening to the muffled cries, curiosity took the best of Harry and he made his way to the girl.

As he walked closer, he recognized those shiny golden brown locks. They belonged to no other than Hermione Granger. She was sitting on the sofa closest to the fire, wiping tears from her cheek and sobbing uncontrollably.

What in Merlin's beard could she be crying about? Harry thought.

It was only in very rare occasions that she would break down, but he'd never seen her this way. It was so intensified, that for a split second it almost felt like one of her family members had passed away. But even if that happened, she would still try to have a positive attitude. She was never one to bring down anyone's spirits.

He needed answers, though, and with that, he decided to sit beside Hermione.

"Mione," Harry began. "What's wrong?"

Attempting to comfort her, he placed a hand behind her back and rubbed it gently.

He knew, though. He knew that she wouldn't talk to him in this state. So instead, he grabbed her shoulders and pulled her into an embrace, hoping that it would make her feel better-- better in a way that she would at least reply.

She leaned onto his chest, and opened her mouth. Shivering, she had trouble speaking.

"I-I-It's Ro-Ron.." Hermione cried, her arms wrapped around Harry tightly.

It couldn't be..

"He.. t-told me it w-w-was ov-over.." she continued, hesitant to speak.

No. It just didn't seem right. That was out of the question. They'd never break up.

Harry was in complete denial. Ron wouldn't. He loved her as she were the world. He really did. Harry could see it.

They were always the picture perfect couple, the one that would be voted Most Likely to Stay Together Forever if people were to guess. Even Harry had thought so.

"T-that's.. Not possible... You know, what if it was.. some sort of spell? I could talk to him in the morning if you want. Ron's always full of surprises." He tried to cheer her up, but it didn't seem to be working.

Looking up, Hermione's face saddened.

"No.. You should've seen Ron's face when he told me. He looked dead serious."

She let go of him, getting into normal position. Sighing, she rested her back on the sofa.

"Oh, what am I going t-to do, H-Harry?"

"I.. don't know. I think you should go get some shut eye though, you look really worn out." Harry told her. "Or I can go back to the dorm and leave you some privacy. Yeah. I best do that."

As he was about to stand up, she squeezed his hand tightly.

"Wait," she said, "Don't.. Don't leave me."

It took a while for him to realize that Hermione had just told him to stay with her. He understood what she was feeling, but something inside him told him not to stay. Though you couldn't blame him, because he was with Ginny at the time.

But the other side wanted him to be there for his best friend. Seeing her like this hurt him-- a lot. And he'd do anything to help.

Tilting his head and running his hands through his jet black hair, he sat beside Hermione.

She let out a tiny smile.

After sitting in silence for a few seconds, Harry broke the ice.

"Have I ever told you that I loved you? As a friend, of course."

"N-no, I don't t-t-think you have.." Hermione was a little shocked at his choice of words. Of course, the trio loved each other dearly, but they were always a little too shy to admit it.

"Well, I do. A lot, actually." He smirked, closing his eyes.

"J-Just so y-you know, I love you too, Harry. Y.. You and Ron both."

"Well, that's tomorrow's business, eh? I'll talk to him for you. Don't worry." Harry said, almost in a whisper.

"Mmkay..."

And with that, they had both fallen asleep.
