Chapter 10

"Great a trip to the woods." I mumble as we stood at the place where we were camping for a bit. "This is going to be our base camp. The boys and I are going to set up the tents while the girls draw a magic circle around the perimeter."

'That's to ward off demons but...' I look down at myself and sigh.

I wipe my forehead looking at my side of the circle. Shiemi and Izumo were attempting to make dinner but it wasn't working out so hot. So, my fabulous and amazing brother decided to cook.

Everyone sat around the fire and started eating his meal. "Do you like it too?" Rin came over and sat next to me. I was avoiding everyone today. "I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure it's good."

"You and Bon get in a fight or is this about the other day?" Rin put his bowl down and got serious. "It's none of those things, alright?" I stood up and started walking towards the edge of the circle.

My eyes traveled down to it and stared at it. It shouldn't hurt me but, if it does it will give me away. Unlike Rin, I'm a full-on demon. He's still pretty human.

"Gather around. I'd like to explain the task to you." I walked back over to everyone earning a glance from Bon. A small smile was on my face for two seconds.

"In this bag, there is a three-day supply of water and food. Also, there's a demon ward, one match, and a flashlight." Great are we going on a scavenger hunt?

"Out in the forest there are lanterns. You are to bring one back lit. There are only three of them out there. Whoever makes it back first gets to go on combat mission. There are only three spots open so do your best."

Yukio handed me my bag looking at me. "Take this." He handed me a piece of paper. "The circle won't affect you if you have this. Rin doesn't need one unless he's transformed, but you on the other hand are always transformed without the flames."

So, Yukio caught on?

I put the paper in my bag at the bottom to make sure I wouldn't lose it. "Take your spots!" Yukio yelled making me sigh. I'm starting to not care about cram school anymore, but if it helps me get to my goal, I'll do it.

Yukio's gun goes off making everyone run, except me. I just walk off like an idiot. I don't think I'll try. That's how most humans win this thing. Geeze the little demons are already out.

I squint my eyes making all of them go up in flames. That's when I saw blue from the left. "Did he just lose control?"

My legs started sprinting towards the left jumping over every bush. I grabbed Rin shirt looking him in the eye. "What the h-"

"We have an audience!" He yelled over me making me let go of his shirt. Shiemi, Bon and Renzo were watching us. "Oh, hey guys." I wave a bit as Renzo flipped his phone out. "Wow. Konekomaru found one, but he says he needs our help."

I put my hands in my pocket following everyone from a distance. Something moved making me stop and look up. Amaimon and Mephisto were watching the campground at a distance. I take out my phone opening a new message and sending one to Yukio.

'Were we supposed to have company tonight?'

I start walking again and before long, I was with the group again. "That's a lantern?" I ask raising my eyebrow. A huge concrete lantern sat up on a pedestal. No way.

My phone buzzed making me turn away from the others.

'No.'

I look over in that direction to see nothing there. They've already gone somewhere. What are they up to?

We loaded the lantern before Konekomaru explained the plan. "Rajiki.. I didn't know you were with them so.." I sigh looking at Rin. "I'll help you I guess."

"That thing is going to be too heavy for you babe." Bon says making me smirk. "Hey Rin, mind dropping it for a sec." Rin dropped it making me groan a bit as I pulled it up all the way. "Rin."

He grabbed on the other side making me sigh. "Let's just start." Bon started reciting while we all did our jobs. Rin and I stopped seeing a big bridge in front of us. "Great. This is a big problem." I say.

Bon took Renzo staff before sticking it in the creek of... Bugs? Bon took it out, winking at me before grabbing a tablet. He started drawing a plan to get the lantern over the creek.

"Konekomaru and I are going to take the cart to the other side. The bug swamp is shallow so I'm going to be walking through it?!" Rin says reading the drawing.

"Once were there, I'm going to stand by with a tag. Meanwhile Shiemi will wait with Renzo on his shoulders." Konekomaru says.

"Then Bon is going to remove the tag while I carry Shiemi on my shoulder across the bug swamp to the other side." Renzo freaked out looking up at Bon.

"After that, Shiemi and I are going to play bait in getting the lantern back up onto the cart. Aw, thanks sweetie." I say shaking my head. He shrugged his shoulders. "Konekomaru will then put on the tag."

Rin switched spots with Renzo as I crossed the bridge. Bon took off the tag before the lantern started chasing Rin and Shiemi. Rin threw her onto the bushes as Konekomaru put the tags on.

"Here Rin, I'll help you up." I hold onto the post before pulling Rin up. As soon as he was up on the rock, the post fell.

No. No. No. No. No. No!

Something came out of the water before something wrapped around Rin and I hoisting us up into the air.

"Rajiki! Rin!"
