When me a Charlie reached the lunchroom we found the bulletin board full of all of the promotional poster for the clubs. Most we decorated with bright colors, a tactic to draw people's attention. One of them was different though. It was decorated with light blue and white. Across it read 'Swim Club. First meeting after school on the first day.' I had always wanted to swim competitively before. Maybe now was a good chance to try.
"Oh, look at this! It's a tech club!" Charlie pointed at one that had been decorated with tons of different video game characters.
"You should join the tech club! You are good with that kind of stuff." I told her.
"What about you? Did you find any interesting ones?" I pointed to the bland light blue and white poster.
"I think I'm going to give the swim club a try. I've always wanted to swim competitively before." I told her with a smile.
"Sweet! Come on, let's go tell the others our plans."
"We should probably get something to eat before there is nothing left." I told her with a chuckle.
"Food first, talking later." Charlie agreed. The two of us made our way to the thinning crowd and got our food. We weaved our way back to the with the boys, Anakin was sitting there now and I took the seat to his right. Charlie sat on my right.
"Alright so we have something important to tell you boys." Charlie announced and looked over at me.
"Well, it was Charlie's idea, but we have both decided to join a club this year." I said with a smile.
"I'm join the tech club and Grace has decided to join the swim club." Charlie finished.
"Do you think that's a good idea Grace? I mean, after last year?"
"I want to move on from that. I want to do something. I don't want to sit around letting the events of last year control my life. I'm going to do the swim club, and you can bet I'm going to do great out there." I gave a proud smile. Something I hadn't done in a long time.
"Alright, but I still don't think it's a good idea."
"You haven't thought any of my idea's have been good. You spend to much time worrying about me and not supporting me. Shouldn't you be backing me up? Supporting my decisions? Ever since that day you keep telling me what not to do. You keep telling me to run away. I don't want to run away. I want to stand strong and face my problems." I had finally snapped. I was done listening to his shit. I wanted to face my problems.
"I'm only trying to look out for you." He told me.
"You keep saying that! You are trying to hide me away from the world though. It's almost like you don't want me to do anything."
"That's not true. I just don't trust them."
"Oh, so now it's that you don't think I can protect myself from them. What, do you want, a damsel in distress, because if that's what you think I am then you are so mistaken. I'm the furthest thing from a damsel in distress. If you are looking for a damsel in distress, you might as well leave now because I'm done with that."
"What are you breaking up with me?"
"I don't know. That's up to you and if you want to stop treating me like something you need to protect." The bell rang then. "We will talk about this after my swim practice today." I told him as I stood. I threw my uneaten food into the trash and left the cafeteria.
It was only after I left that I realized I had free period next and could have stayed to eat, but it was too late now. I decided to to get some chips from the vending machine and eat those so I would have something in my stomach for practice today. I also took the time to walk back to my house to grab my bathing suit. It wasn't much just a simple one piece bathing suit that was the blue color of the Tardis. I threw it into my backpack and walked back up to the school just in time for the bell to right for our next class. I pulled out my schedule. I had Titan Killing next. Oh that was going to be interesting. Also probably another class where the kids wouldn't talk shit about me. Although that was a difficult call, because honestly, who knew what people talked about.
