After changing into my swimsuit, I walked back out to the pool. The four boys had already dived into the pool and we swimming back and forth in their lanes, practicing their different strokes. Gou stood off to the side watching them. She turned when she heard my steps on the cement floor.
"Okay Grace. First thing we need to do is figure out what kind of swimming you are good at." Gou said walking over to where I was. She called the boys over too, to help. "You have four different options to choose from. There is the backstroke, the breaststroke, the butterfly, and freestyle. Each of the boys are specialized in a different style so they can help you learn them if you don't already know. Is there a style that you already know, or would like to try?" I thought for a minute.
"Well, I've never done anything like this, so I have never really tried the different strokes, so I guess I would have to go freestyle, to start out at least." I told her.
"Alright. Well get in the pool and start practicing." Gou pointed over to the pool where the boys were all standing in the corner, intently listening. "And you boys, back to work!" I made my way over to the pool where the boys still stood, a little further from the edge as if they were going back to their swimming.
"Do you have a pair of goggles you can use?" Makoto asked. I hadn't realized I didn't have my goggles.
"Oh, shit. I think I left them back at my house. I'll bring them tomorrow, I swear!" I scratched at the back of my head, a little unsure if I even had goggles. It had been a while since the last time I swam. Makoto pulled his goggle off his head.
"It's alright. You can borrow mine for today. I have another pair in my bag." He gave me another one of his reassuring smiles. He seemed to smile like that a lot. He tossed the goggle over to me and I caught them in the air. I held them, a little unsure. I watched as he climbed out of the pool to go get his spare pair of goggles.
"Are you sure? I mean, you don't have to. I'll be fine without them." I looked up at him as he passed me, he just gave me another smile.
"I'm sure. Besides it's difficult to learn when you can't see." I watched as he walked off and disappeared behind the door to the men's locker room. Why did I always have to have such friendly favorite character?
I removed my glasses and set them off to the side so no one would step on them. I would need to be careful not to lose those. I pulled Makoto's goggles on over my head, but they were far too big and just slid down so the hung over my chest. I tightened them a little so they would stay on before fitting them soundly onto my head. Everything in front of me was green and blurry. Note to self, get some prescription goggles. Second note to self, figure out what your prescription is first, and also get new glasses, it's been a while.
I walked over to the edge of the pool and slid myself in. The water was a little chilly, but not horribly cold. I quickly dipped underwater to get the rest of my body used to it. When I resurfaced I waded my way over to the boys, who were standing around in the center of the pool. Makoto joined us after a minute when he returned with a new pair of goggles. The boys spent most of the class teaching me how to swim with the different strokes. If I had to choose the most difficult one for me it would have to be the butterfly stroke. I'm just not flexible enough for that one. My arms don't move that way.
I may have been awkward when I arrived, but I felt better by the time I was leaving. I definitely had a smile on my face. When I was done changing, I waved goodbye to the boys, who were still hanging around talking, and made my way home. When I arrived, I dropped my bag at the door and walked into the kitchen. Anakin sat at the table waiting. Right I was supposed to talk to him about earlier.
"You should have had enough time to think." I said to him as walked to the cabinet to grab a glass. Swimming certainly made you thirsty. Or was it the hot shirtless boys? It must have been both.
