I overslept again and I need coffee. That's the only thing I was thinking when I woke up. How tired I am and the fact I need a coffee in my hand immediately. I look at my phone on the nightstand beside me and it says that the time is 12:07 pm. I groan and shake my head because of how late I slept in. "Why didn't that girl wake me up?" I say quietly, questioning what her reasons could be. I mean, what's the point of having a roommate if they won't wake you up? Like, she's my best friend, but she doesn't seem to like helping me out by waking me in the morning.
Groaning once again, I sit up and look around my messy room. Music lyrics and coffee cups are scattered everywhere. I honestly don't have the energy to clean up the mess, but it's getting worse everyday, so I get out of my bed and begin to pick up the sheets of paper and set them down neatly on the desk in the corner of the room. I gather all the cups and walk out my room, trudge into the small kitchen, and throw all the cups away. I walk over to the fridge, my favorite place to go to when I wake up, and see a note with neat handwriting on it.
"Going out with Farkle today, he said he wants to talk. Should I be worried? What if he wants to break up? Anyway, I've already prepared my ice cream and tissue. So DO NOT touch the ice cream. Other than that, I left you some money for your morning coffee because I didn't want to leave and come back. That should be all.. love ya peaches!!"
"Oh Riley, how could you possibly think that I wouldn't touch the ice cream?" I say as I take a spoon from a nearby drawer and open the freezer to grab the ice cream. After opening the container, I take a spoonful of the chocolate cookie dough ice cream and eat it all at once. I close the ice cream and set it back in the freezer. I throw the spoon in the almost full sink. It was my turn to do dishes, but I don't feel like it at the moment.
I should probably get ready to leave. I haven't found a job yet and I'm falling behind on everything. I have no money and I need new clothes. Plus, I haven't had the money to help pay rent. Riley says she's okay with paying the rent right now because she knows that I can't find a job. I don't want her to, but she's alright with it.
The thing about Riley is, she owns her own company, where they make clothes with sayings like 'Gender Equality' and 'Feminist', and she makes a lot of money from it. She could own a huge penthouse where all the rich and successful people live, yet she lives in this tiny apartment because she says she doesn't need to have a huge place to live, just me to be by her side no matter what. The world definitely needs more Riley Matthew's in it.
Almost forgetting what I was doing, I look at the time and see that it's already been twenty minutes. So I go into the bathroom to take a shower, and prepare for my day. Hopefully today will be a good one.
Twenty minutes later
I have to get my own coffee today. I hate getting my own coffee. I honestly don't know why, but I do. I walk down the sidewalk, with my guitar on my back, occasionally bumping into rushing people. I don't know where this coffee place is because Riley always gets the coffee. She says it's small but I can't miss it, because it says Friar's Coffee House in big letters on the front. After walking a bit more down the sidewalk, I finally stop in front of the small coffee shop. As soon as I enter, the smell of coffee and freshly baked bread hits me, and I can already tell I'll be coming down here to write songs often. I walk up to the counter and order my coffee. The girl behind the counter with a name tag that says 'Sarah' on it tells me someone will be here in a moment with my coffee. A guy named Zay comes back with my coffee. I pay and as I turn around, I look over and see a 'Help Wanted' sign on a small stage in the corner. I turn back to the counter and to get Zay's attention.
"So you guys looking for a musician?" I ask him and he turns around.
"Yes indeed. I'm guessing you want to apply for the job?" he says with a smile.
I nod my head and he says he'll have to get the boss to see how well I play. He goes to the back to get his boss so I patiently sip my coffee and look down at my nails, waiting for someone to return.
"Hello there ma'am. I heard you want to apply for the musician job. What's your name?" I deep voice says from behind he counter. I look up to see a man wearing a blue shirt, with a cactus pin attached to it. When I looked at him, I heard him whisper something.
"Wow"
Wow? What does he mean by wow? I don't feel like asking so I just tell him my name.
"Maya Hart, sir. So what do I have to do to get the job?" I say with a small smile on my face. He just continues to look at me without saying. I raise an eyebrow, and look over at Zay. "Lucas!" He says loudly while snapping his fingers in the man's face. The man looks over at Zay and back to me and apologizes.
"S-sorry. Maya, was it? Okay. All you have to do is prove that you're good at what you do, and we'll see what happens next. So you go up on stage and play something."
I nod and walk over to the stage.I sit on the stool and take my guitar out the case. Taking a deep breath, I prepare to sing and to play a song.
Car drove off, airplane flew. I stay here missing you.
I grow old and never see, that you were there missing me.
Are we now, what were we then? Will we look back and wonder when what could have been, what isn't yet?
Will you remember or forget?
I stop playing and the people in the shop begin to clap. I smile and say thank you, and walk back over to the counter. "Well? Was I good enough?" I ask the man. He smiles at me, and all he said was "Wow."
(A/N) chapter one complete of another cliche fanfic. Hope you enjoyed reading this chapter. And to all the people who watched STEM, how hard was it to control the feels because I did a horrible job at that.
